As part of Sutton United’s efforts to stay connected with the community, they have reached out to invite Cheam Common Infants and Juniors to join their latest initiative “Team Up For Tickets”.
This initiative gives Friends the chance to sell tickets to a home game and receive back 50% of the value of tickets sold (excl. VAT). Whether you love football or simply fancy a family day out, supporting a local team, this could be the event for you! Tickets for children are free, hopefully encouraging even more of our families to make the most of a great day out!
Our school’s dedicated fixture is:
Sutton United v Oldham Town on Saturday 19th October 2024 (3pm)
Tickets can be bought here.
We hope this will offer many of you a fantastic day out whilst raising money for our school!
Monday 18th November
Next half term for our history learning, the children will be learning all about the world of toys and the role that they play in entertaining us, educating us, and stimulating our imagination. As historians, they will be finding out about the ways in which toys have changed over time. To enhance their learning, we would like the children to participate in an interactive Victorian drama workshop.
After learning some well-known Victorian parlour games, the children will have the opportunity to handle and examine a large selection of wooden, tin and cloth replica toys, to discover how they work and how they are made. Thus bringing their learning to life!
The cost of this workshop is £4.50 per child. We would be grateful if you could make this payment via your Arbor account by 4th November, under the trip section.
This half term, our Year 2 children have been reading the Storm Whale in their classes.
Thank you to those parents who have informed us that the Storm Whale is currently on stage at the Polka Theatre. You can find out more information and book tickets here.
There are two age categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year-olds. All children need to do is write a story they would love to read in 500 Words or less.
We would love children of all abilities to enter; spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - it's all about creativity!
50 finalists will be invited to go to a glamorous grand final at Buckingham Palace in February next year, where the bronze, silver and gold winners in each category will have their stories read out by celebrities.
There are also lots of prizes to be won - each winner will take home a bundle of books and the gold winners also win 500 books for their school library.
Not only that, the winning stories will receive an original illustration from Dapo Adeola, Nigel Parkinson, Lydia Monks, Momoko Abe, Rob Biddulph or Yasmeen Ismail.
It's incredibly important to us that children of all abilities and backgrounds are able to take part in the competition; therefore each school that enters a story and receives 50% free school meals or more, is entitled to a £50 National Book Token and three £10 book tokens for their pupils.
LEO Academy Trust is incredibly proud to work in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching as an Associate College to deliver Initial Teacher Training, (ITT) Early Career Framework (ECF) and National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) from September 2025. Associate Colleges are successful school trusts, selected because of their wealth of in-house expertise in professional development and their deep relationships in their local areas. This collaboration allows us to be at the forefront of educational excellence, providing local teachers with unparalleled opportunities for professional growth, learning and development. Together, we are shaping the future of teaching and learning, ensuring that every child receives the highest quality education.
Applications for our primary ITT courses are now open for September 2025! Our initial teacher training is a fully immersive school-centred programme - aspiring teachers will be in the classroom from the very start. But full immersion does not mean that you will be thrown in the deep end: our trainees are mentored and have central training once a week.
To apply for a place on our ITT programme please click here.
A reminder that our main playground gate is open from 8:30-8:40am every morning. Our Phonics lessons start at 8:45am across the school and it is important that teachers are back in class at this time and the children have been registered and are ready for their new learning. If you would like to speak to your child's class teacher for a longer meeting, please email the office to arrange this.
We ask our parents to please be mindful of parking restrictions around our school. We care about our local community and want to ensure we do not impact their lives negatively.
Please take care not to block driveways when parking, not to park on the zig-zagged lines outside the office, and to be patient with one another.
Please ensure that your child's belongings are clearly labelled, especially water bottles, coats and jumpers. Our lost property box is already overflowing with items of clothing that are not named.
Now that the new school year is underway, we would like to remind you of our school attendance and punctuality expectations and procedures.
As many of you will be aware, there have been significant changes to the statutory attendance guidance, these changes came into effect on 19th August 2024. Our Attendance Policy has been revised to reflect these changes. Please click below for the updated policy.
The changes aim to improve school attendance and ensure that all students receive the education they deserve.
In Nursery this week the children have read their core text Pete the Cat. They made Pete the Cat using craft materials. In Maths, they have been looking at the numerals 1,2 and 3. They have been practising recognising and writing them and linking them to a corresponding amount.
In Reception this week the children have read their core text Ruby’s Worry. They have made the ‘Worry’ from the story and discussed who they can tell if they feel worried. They have also focused on the number 2 and have practised making this in different ways eg: with conkers!
Year One have had a fun week of learning. In English we have been reading ‘I want my hat back’. They have learnt some new writing skills. The children wrote questions to ask the Bear to help him find his hat. They found writing a question mark a little tricky! In Maths, we have been learning about part part whole and partitioning numbers to 5. They have been brilliant at practically moving the counters and have recorded very well. In geography the children have been thinking about what type of home they live in. In Science the children have been learning about the four seasons and which months of the year are in each season. They have been looking at seasonal changes in Autumn.
In English, this week the Year 2 children have become authors! They have developed their own characters and incorporated them into a narrative about a lonely child who makes friends with a lost sea creature. We can’t wait to share them with you once they are finished. In maths the children applied their knowledge of number bonds to complete addition bridging 10. In Art, they used a combination of oil pastels and watercolours to create beautiful autumn leaf pictures. Great work Year 2!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
