What has been happening this week?

Another author commented on the children's work!

The Key Stage One text last week was Pattan's Pumpkin. The author tweeted about the work we uploaded.

National Numeracy Day

National Numeracy Day is celebrated every year on May 13th. It's an exciting event designed to celebrate the fact that maths is far more than just something we learn in the classroom; it's all around us in our everyday lives. This week our Choice Boards featured extra activity ideas focused on maths and on Wednesday our usual LEO Distance Learning maths lessons were replaced by special presentations from Natasha Dolling, LEO Director of Mathematics. We'd love to see how you get on with the challenges that she set!

International Nurses' Day and Florence Nightingale

On Tuesday 12th May it was International Nurses' Day and it was Florence Nightingale's birthday. Click here to see this week's assembly.

Calling all Year 1 and Year 2 children who love quizzes!

We hope that you had a safe and enjoyable time celebrating VE Day last week. We loved seeing the photos and work that you shared via email and Twitter. Many thanks for taking the time to send those in to us, it is always a pleasure to see what the children have been up to. The children now have the opportunity to complete a fun quickfire quiz testing their knowledge on this key historic event. There are five questions to answer and the faster they give the correct answer, the higher their score! They can try it out here and the deadline is next Tuesday, 19th May. Good luck! We will announce the winner next week.

Tadpole update

We have very exciting news about the tadpoles - 2 of them have back legs! The children have been sending in their beautiful pictures and naming the tadpoles. The tadpole below pictured is 'Henry', you can even see his toes! We still need some more names as we have lots of tadpoles to name.

Weather Forecast

During the week, the children used the green screen and created their own weather report. Click here to watch it. Please note you will need to download it first.

Distance Learning

It has been wonderful to see the variety of learning taking place this week both at home and in school. Many children have accessed the online lessons whilst also exploring their own learning interests too. We are loving how creative you all are!

Please remember, the learning opportunities are there for you to do but as always family time is vitally important.

Just remember, every experience is a learning one!

Information and Resources

The Locals: Diaries - Distance Learning Project with Sutton Cultural Services

LEO Academy Trust have been asked to take part in an exciting project from Sutton Cultural Services called ‘The Locals: Diaries’. We are incredibly honoured to have been asked and hope that lots of you will want to get involved.

Sutton Council Archives are collecting diary entries from different types of people throughout the borough during this unusual time. They are going to add your entries to Sutton’s Archive Collection so that historians of the future can learn what this time was like for people in our community.

Entries can be as short or as long as you like. You can write about one single day, a week or keep a diary over a few weeks. Your diary can include photographs, drawings or even poetry. It can be handwritten or digital. You could even make a video diary (If other people are in the video, make sure that you have their permission). BE CREATIVE!

Click here for a template you could use.

Anyone can take part in the project but in order for the diaries to be entered into the Sutton Council Archives, we will need parental permission.

Once the diary entry is completed, please email to: diaryentryproject@leoacademytrust.co.uk.

Please include your child’s name, school, class and age.

Then please complete this form to give permission.

Online Safety

This page has been created to support parents during Covid-19 and the closure of schools. Each fortnight, we will be releasing new home activity packs with simple 15 minute activities you can do with your child to support their online safety at home. This page includes all packs for children aged 5-7.

#StreetSmiles

Veolia is delighted to announce the launch of our #StreetSmiles campaign which encourages residents to support key workers collecting our waste and recycling, by spreading #StreetSmiles.

Why not take part by creating a 'smiling sun' and displaying it in your windows; ready to brighten the refuse workers’ day?

Any pictures can also be shared online via our social media pages. All you need to do is take a photo of your artwork and share to your social media page, making sure to use the hashtag #StreetSmiles. All posts are relayed back to our hardworking collection crews and street teams and regularly brighten our team’s days!

School Nursing Team Update

We are currently operating a Duty Call line which is monitored daily by a School Nurse for all parents / carers / young people in the borough. The contact number for this is: 020 8770 5409.

Within the next week the school nursing team hope to be starting an Instagram page which will be updated regularly with public health information and health updates for young people. This will be managed by Public Health Sutton. We are currently looking into the possibility of a Q and A page within instagram for young people to interact directly with us. This site will also offer signposting to available resources and local / national services.
