Mental Health Week

This week as part of mental health week, we have been looking at identifying our emotions using some of the Beano characters as well as thinking about who we can talk to if we are feeling worried or lonely.

Below is some contact information if you feel you or anyone you know requires help with mental health wellbeing.

Walk to School Week- 16th May

During the week commencing 16th May pupils and staff at CCI will be taking part in Walk to School Week. Our five-day walking challenge is a fun and engaging activity, raising awareness and celebrating walking for all. All children taking part will earn a badge and there will be a trophy for the class with the most walkers over the week.

How does it work?

Each pupil will be challenged to walk, cycle, scoot or ‘park and stride’ to school at least once during the week. The children will log how they made their journeys, in class, and learn about walking benefits collectively. If walking is difficult due to distance or time, we encourage parents to ‘park and stride’. Parents park just a little further away from the school and then accompany pupils to walk the last few minutes into school and then still earn a badge at the end of the week.

Why are we taking part?

The benefits from walking to school are numerous and include:

  • reducing congestion and air pollution in the locality and improving road safety.

  • working towards pupils reaching their recommended 60 minutes minimum of physical activity per day.

  • contributing to the development of strong hearts, healthy bones and increased muscle strength, which are all well-documented outcomes of walking.

  • benefitting the mind. Walking can provide an increased sense of calm and self-esteem, time to connect with friends, family and the natural world, awakened creativity and improved overall cognitive function.

  • Walking to school will set children up for a positive day in the classroom and it will also help create healthy habits for life.

Where can I find out more?

So let’s get walking and enjoy a happy and healthy walk to school week.

During the week of 23rd May we will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee. On Wednesday 25th May we will be having a street party lunch in the playground weather permitting! We will also be having additional activities. More information to follow soon.

What has been happening in school?

In Nursery, they explored the number 7 using manipulatives and jottings.

Reception enjoyed decorating biscuits.

In Year 1 they used their senses of touch and smell to guess what fruits were in the mystery bag and discussed where they came from. Then we used our sense of taste to try different fruits. We had so much fun, look at what we tried.

In Year 1 the children practised their cutting skills and made their own fruit cocktail.

In Year 2 we have been exploring finger puppets. We have designed our own sea life finger puppet and will use this to spread awareness of plastic pollution. Before we have made our puppets we have been practising using a running stitch.
