This week we have started our new topic in Year 1 and Year 2. We have also introduced some new texts. Click here to see our whole school curriculum overview , Year 1 overview and Year 2 overview. We have also completed some assessments to check what learning has 'stuck' and what we need to focus on.

We are pleased to announce that Miss Grainger will now be our Sports Coach. She previously worked at Playball and at our wrap around care. She will be with us Wednesday to Fridays and will work with all the children. Also Mrs Ren who was a midday supervisor and wrap around care member of staff is leaving us. She has worked at the school for seven years, she will be missed and we wish her well for the future.

New Behaviour Policy
New Behaviour Policy
Over the holidays, we reviewed our behaviour policy. We wanted to simplify it and provide opportunities for classes to focus on certain aspects that related to their class. We still have opportunities for children to move up and down on the chart in class and if a child makes a poor choice then we have a restorative approach.

Here is our new policy. It is in draft. Please read and email in any comments as we wanted to provide time for any feedback. We will share the finalised policy soon.

We have also reviewed our weekly certificates. Children could receive a Star of the Week certificate, 3B's certificate or a postcard. Please see below how the children could receive one of these. The children's names will be shared in the weekly Achievement assembly every Friday and in the weekly newsletter.

Weekly Star of Week certificate- a child is chosen who has been on the star several times over the week. This is related to children’s work and outcomes.
Weekly 3 Bee’s certificate- a child is chosen who tries their best or consistently demonstrates one of the three rules.
Weekly Rainbow postcards- promoting learning behaviours where a child consistently performs or one off Wow event. Could be a piece of work or how the child behaves.
Healthy Lunches
Healthy Lunches
At Cheam Common Infants’ we want all of our children to become ‘healthy learners’ and we recognise how important the food that our children eat is to this. For that reason, we recommend that our children take up the Universal free school meals offer that is provided for children in Reception, Year One and Year Two. Our school meals are designed to be appealing, varied and balanced, meeting Government guidelines for nutritional standards in schools. However, we realise that for a variety of reasons, some families prefer to give their school children a packed lunch from home. This is fine, although we would ask that the lunches provided are also healthy, balanced and appropriately sized. Please visit the NHS ‘change for life’ website on the link below for guidance on packing a healthy lunch box: Healthier lunch boxes

When your child celebrates their birthday, we would ask that the child donates a book to the library instead of bringing treats for the class. The book will help us to grow our library and ensure we are promoting healthy eaters. We will also be displaying a photo of the child with their book in the library.

We used the money to purchase a dishwasher and paint our staff room. We also reorganised the furniture and space. We are just waiting for the last few bits to arrive!

We recently received a generous donation from a parent. We used the money to install a new cover outside Rabbits and Fawns. The nursery team are looking forward to working on developing the covered space.

This week the children have learnt about tribes and how they will become a class tribe. They also discussed different teams they may have seen who are tribes and what qualities make a good team. The children then created their own puzzle pieces to create a wall display in their class.
