We hope you all enjoyed the 'quite damp' Bank Holiday weekend. Thankfully, we have returned to school and the sun has finally got his hat on! The children have thoroughly enjoyed being outside in the warmth. Jumpers and cardigans are being removed so please ensure your child's jumper or cardigan is named. Please also ensure you apply sun tan lotion to your child before you bring them to school and ensure they have a water bottle and a hat. While we appreciate they are very pretty, please ensure your children do not wear any animal shaped headbands to school.
Thank you.
On Sunday, several member of LEO staff are once again completing the Marsden March. If you are out and about in Cheam/Nonsuch park on Sunday afternoon and see us, please do give us a wave and cheer!

Thank you.
Police Visit to Reception
On Friday, Reception were visited by our local police. The children were able to look at the uniform and equipment the police wear and use as well as look at the different vehicles! They also had lots of fun recording their fingerprints! A massive thank you our local police team for coming along and demonstrating how they help us.
This week Nursery shared the story of 'Supertato'. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about the fantastic Superhero and all his veggie friends. They got very creative and had lots of fun making their own Supertato and veggies.
In their maths learning, they were showing their 1:1 correspondence skills by counting the number of 'evil peas' on the plate! Some were also able to show how they could represent numbers in numerals, using Numicon and as 'peas'. Amazing work!
As the sun has finally come out, they have also had lots of fun learning and playing outside including setting up an outside classroom and playing teachers!
Great job Nursery!
This week our Reception children continued looking at the story 'What the Ladybird Heard'. This week they were authors and wrote parts of the story.
Their number of the week was 14 and our maths focus was more or less.
Can the children tell you what one more or less than 9 is?
In science we learnt about different baby animals. Did you know a baby turkey is called a poult? The children matched parents to offspring and labelled them.
In art we have painted ladybirds and created 3 Dimensional pigs.
In history we learnt how in the past children often had to work on farms. Our reception children decided that they would rather come to school to learn and have fun but a few would like to be farmers when they grow up.
They had a great day today when the police visited.
What a busy week they have had!
Year 1 have really enjoyed seeing their seeds and beans grow, roots, shoots and leaves. There has been a buzz of excitement every morning as they check to see how tall they have grown. They have been sent home so they can be planted in some soil, please do keep us posted via seesaw on how they are growing.
In English the children have enjoyed learning how to write a diary entry. They wrote a diary entry from Kanni 'Pattan's Pumpkin' and tried hard to include all the features. Writing in first person was quite a challenge. They did produced some wonderful work and we were very proud of them all.
As mathematicians, the children have been learning about fractions. They have been practically finding half and quarters of shapes. They were confident knowing they needed to find two equal groups for half and four equal groups when finding quarters. They then moved on to find half of a number.
Can you ask your child - what does half mean? Can show you how to find half of 8?
As scientists, the children have been identifying garden and wild plants. They have learnt to name some of the common plants and compared their similarities and differences.
Can your child name some plants? (e.g daffodils, daisy or tulips.)
As geographers, the children have continued to learn about the United Kingdom. They enjoyed using Now Press Play to reinforce their learning of facts about Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England.
Acting as an Artist, the children continued their learning on 'Flora and Fauna'. They have begun learning the skill of collage and designing their mini beast using a variety of different papers. They loved cutting and overlapping shapes to create some wonderful mini beasts.
This week, Year 2 continued to read Roald Dahl's 'George's Marvellous Medicine'. They looked at using imperative verbs to help them write their instructions.
Can they give you some examples of the imperative/bossy verbs they used?
Acting as scientists, they dissected a range of seeds including pumpkin, sunflower and broad bean.
Can they tell you what they found inside the beans?
In PE, the developed their skills of catching and balancing demonstrating great coordination.
Working as mathematicians, they have been continuing to look at fractions. This time using cubes to help them find fractions of different amounts by ebnsuring they are sharing then equally.
Can they tell you what a 1/4 of 12 is?
Birthdays - polite reminder
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
If you do bring in treats, we will NOT hand them out. We expect you and your child to hand them out so you can check if parents are happy for their child to receive the treat.
Happy birthday to all our pupils who have celebrated a birthday this week.
Happy Birthday to Jack in Badgers. Thank you for donating 'Don't eat the teacher' to our library.
If you would like to inform us of any achievements your child has completed outside of school, please complete this FORM

Children and young people are bound to spend lots more time on devices since Covid. DON’T FEEL BAD – lots will be schoolwork or healthy ways of catching up with friends or having fun. There are many ways to keep them safe, healthy and happy.
Read these six top tips to help your children to keep safe online.
There are many different views about physical chastisement, but it is widely accepted there are much more effective ways to teach children right from wrong.
As a local authority, Sutton has seen a number of children coming to the attention of police and social care due to the use of physical chastisement and as such has worked with other local authorities on an initiative to reduce this number.
In line with this initiative, we agree that anything that causes harm to a child is unacceptable.
As a school, we have a duty to report incidents of suspected or confirmed physical chastisement to social care and the police and this can be with ot without visible bruising, grazes, scratches, minor swelling, cuts as well as stress injuries from prolonged standing, position holding as these are banned by law in the United Kingdom.
Smacking or chastising that does not leave a mark is now illegal in Wales and Scotland, and there is currently pressure being placed on the Government to make it illegal in England and Northern Ireland too. It is therefore important to understand that even if a child has been smacked but no injuries are visible, social care or the police may still choose to take further action.
If you would like support on how to manage your child’s behaviour at home, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.

Surrey County Council encourages residents to foster
Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience that can transform the lives of both the children being fostered and the foster carers themselves. Children who enter the care system have often experienced trauma and instability in their lives, and a caring, stable foster family can make a significant difference in their wellbeing and development.
Nationally, there are currently over 70,000 children living with foster families in the UK. However, there is still a significant shortage of foster carers, with around 9,265 new foster families needed in the next year alone. In Surrey, there are over 1,000 children in care and Surrey County Council have just under 400 foster families.
Foster carers come from all walks of life and backgrounds, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fostering. Whether you are single or married, young or old, own your own home or rent, you can still become a foster carer. The most important thing is a willingness to provide a safe and loving home for a child in need.
This is the message that Surrey County Council is promoting in national recruitment film ‘Any of Us’. The short film has been jointly funded by over 80 councils across England and aims to raise awareness about fostering, particularly among those people who may not have previously considered themselves suited to fostering. The film looks at the potential of three people from different backgrounds to become foster carers, and the potential of children they care for to grow and thrive. ‘Any of Us’ will be available to watch from 26 September.
If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time to take that first step and find out more. The more people who consider fostering, the greater the chance of finding loving, stable homes for children in Surrey who desperately need them.
You can contact Surrey County Council Fostering Service on 0800 096 9626, via email at fostering.recruitment@surreycc.gov.uk or by visiting the website; www.surreycc.gov.uk/fostering
You can watch ‘Any of Us’ via Any of Us - YouTube and connect with the Fostering Service on social media via @surreyfostering
