We will be celebrating NSPCC Number Day on Friday 7th February. This has been moved from the Thursday to coincide with nationwide celebrations of the day.
We would like to invite all children to wear number- and maths-themed costumes to school. You might even decide to come as a Numbot!
If you would like to donate money to the NSPCC, you can do so here.
On Saturday 22nd February, Girl Guides and Scouts will be celebrating World Thinking Day. Therefore, we would like to invite any children who attend Girl Guides or Girl Scouts to wear their uniform on Monday 24th February, if they would like to.
Our Year 2 classes are excited to attend trips to Brooklands in February. Please complete this Google Form to ensure your child has permission to attend.
The cost of the visit is £24.00 per child which includes entrance to the museum, the peg racer workshop and transport costs. Please note that refunds cannot be made if your child is absent on the day.
This is a friendly reminder that Cheam Common Infants' is a nut-free school. This policy is in place to protect children with severe nut allergies, which can cause life-threatening reactions.
Please do not send any food items containing nuts to school with your child. This includes, but is not limited to:
All types of nuts: peanuts, almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts
Monkey nuts
Chocolate spread (e.g., Nutella, which often contains hazelnuts)
Chocolate filled crepes (e.g., Sainsburys own as these contain hazelnut filling)
Peanut butter
Baked goods that contain nuts or nut flour
Snacks and cereals that may contain nuts or have "may contain" warnings
Even trace amounts of nuts can trigger a severe allergic reaction in some children. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school a safe environment for all students.
In Nursery, we have been celebrating Lunar New Year and blowing bubbles to explore our special word “float” from the NELI programme.
In Reception, we have also been celebrating Lunar New Year. This week, we also explored healthy and unhealthy food and wrote shopping lists.
Year One were so excited to celebrate Chinese New Year. I was wonderful to see so many children wearing their traditional clothes and they spoke confidently about how they celebrate. The children made lanterns, learnt about the Year of the snake and made Chinese dragons. It was lots of fun! In English the children have recalled the story of The Lonely Beast writing the beginning, middle and end. It has been a little tricky for them trying to remember time adverbials, conjunctions and adjectives in their sentences. In maths, the children have excelled using the equation cycle. They are really grasping the concept of how addition is the inverse of subtraction. In Science the children enjoyed using their sense of taste and comparing different fruits and vegetables e.g oranges are sweet and juicy. In art this week, the children created their own foam tile ready for printing next week. What a busy week we have all had!
We journeyed back in time to explore the groundbreaking achievements of the Wright brothers. The children creatively demonstrated their understanding of the impact these aviation pioneers had on transportation through engaging role play performances. We continued our science learning about materials by investigating how we can change the shapes of different objects and recording our findings on Seesaw. Our budding engineers brought their car designs to life with meticulous care and attention to detail. The anticipation is building as we prepare to test these fantastic creations next week!
In mathematics, we've been diving deep into division, focusing on both grouping and sharing. To challenge their thinking, the children composed their own unique division word problems for their classmates to solve.
This week saw a thrilling poetry competition! We explored the whimsical world of nonsense poems and crafted our own imaginative kenning poems. The winning poem will be celebrated as our "Poem of the Week" next week and proudly performed in assembly by the entire year group.
What an inspiring week it has been! We can't wait to see what adventures await us next!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.
