The staff and children are looking forward to the half-term break, and we hope for good weather for those travelling, especially the children who mentioned going camping .
Thursday saw Mrs. Woods organise a biodiversity day to encourage the children's awareness of nature. This year's theme focused on harmony with nature and sustainable development, highlighting the importance of environmental understanding even at a young age.
As the final half-term begins, Year 1 pupils will be preparing for their phonics screening check which takes place during the week commencing June 9th. The results will be included in their end-of-year reports. This check assesses whether pupils have developed phonic decoding skills to the expected standard and identifies those who may require additional support. The check involves pupils reading aloud 20 real words and 20 pseudo-words to a trained member of staff, familiar to the children. Further information is available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/phonics-screening-check-assessment-and-reporting-arrangements-ara/2025-phonics-screening-check-assessment-and-reporting-arrangements#:~:text=The%20phonics%20screening%20check%20is,aloud%20to%20the%20check%20administrator.
Finally, a reminder that children should not use the school play equipment after the end of the school day. Our insurance policy does not cover the equipment when children are supervised by parents rather than staff. We therefore request that you leave the school site promptly after collecting your children to allow for gate closure and the timely commencement of after-school clubs.
Wishing you all a very happy Bank holiday Monday and an enjoyable half term break. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday June 2nd 2025.

Reception places are filling up!
We have fewer than five places left for our Reception cohort for 2025. If you have any friends or family moving to the area or who need a place for September, please let them know! Our admissions team led by Mrs Meaney will be able to advise and provide all necessary information to anyone interested.
Tuesday 24th and Thursday 26th June
To support our science and geography learning, we have arranged a fantastic trip to RHS Wisley for the Year 2 children next half term. On this trip, the children will have the chance to explore the beautiful gardens and the Glasshouse to develop their understanding of how plants are adapted to grow in different conditions and climates. The children will be given the opportunity to go on a scavenger hunt and create artworks using natural objects. We anticipate that this trip will provide the children with an educational and enjoyable experience with the freedom to be fully immersed in nature for the day.
On Tuesday 24th June Eagles and Falcons will be visiting the gardens. Mrs Harris will lead the trip, accompanied by Miss Stansbie. On Thursday 26th June, Owls and Kestrels will be visiting the gardens, led by Mrs Harris and accompanied by Miss King and Miss Jung. We will leave school by coach at 9.00am and we will return to school by 3.00pm.
Please complete this form by Tuesday 17th June to confirm your children’s participation in the trip. We may also need some parent volunteers. If you are available on this date and would like to offer your help, please indicate this on the form. We will then contact you to confirm your help.
The cost of this trip is £20.00 and payment should be made via Arbor by Tuesday 17th June.

Between Monday 23rd and Friday 27th June, we will be celebrating Maths Week London.
All children are invited to take part in our LEO-wide competition about famous historical mathematicians. You can choose from either Ada Lovelace or Albert Einstein, and complete an activity about their life.
There are activities for all ages, from Nursery to Year 6.
<-- See the poster here for more information about Ada Lovelace.

Nursery have been reading Oliver’s Fruit Salad. They enjoyed trying different fruits and then made their own fruit salad. They have also explored fruit in the water tray and painted some fruit pictures!
Reception have been reading Bog Baby and learning about the lifecycle of a frog. They made frog spawn pictures and played with the chia seed sensory play in forest school. They also looked at different types of bees. In maths, they have continued to use rekenreks to count.
Year One had a great last week of Summer One, wow only one term left in Year One. The children have really enjoyed their book “Little Red and the very hungry lion” and have made connections to a variety of stories. We were incredibly proud of the children’s writing about Little Red’s journey to Auntie’s house. They all remembered to use time adverbials, adjectives, conjunctions and made their sentences exciting. In maths the children have enjoyed using positional language, they know their left and right and can confidently move objects behind, beside, above etc
Year One have loved finishing their Flora and Fauna creations by adding on insects and coloring them neatly. This week the children have completed Science, Geography and R.E assessments using seesaw, recapping all their learning this term.
Have a wonderful half term. Please practise phonics with your child -special friends, fred talk, read the word.
What a fantastic final week for Year 2! Our young artists became musical maestros, crafting mythical creature artworks that actually make sounds using recycled materials. In Geography, they became global explorers, using Thinglink to research Beijing and make comparisons to London. Our budding scientists completed their beanstalk experiment, proving that sunlight, warmth, water, and soil are essential for growth (those cupboard beans are still looking a bit sad!). Finally, our writers brewed up some imaginative "marvellous medicine" instructions, complete with subheadings, time words, imperative verbs, and adverbs.
A huge well done to Year 2 for all your hard work this half term – enjoy your well-deserved break!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your birthday book donation.
