We are looking for any creative parents and families with building skills or links with local builders who would like to make a branded resource.
We would love to be able to provide our new Reception 'Forest School', gravel garden and outside continuous provision area with a Messy Kitchen! We know that these can be built using old pallets and wood and were wondering whether there were any parents who would be able to help with this?
Please contact the school office if you feel that this is something that you could help with. Any help would be beyond appreciated!
As the weather starts to improve, we are turning our attention to the EYFS forest area. We would be very grateful for any donations of unwanted stepping stones, logs or plants that could enhance this space for our children!
If you have any donations, these would be welcomed at the school office or to class teachers.
We would like to thank Isla in Hedgehogs and her family for providing us with three trays of primulas and some compost that have added a super splash of colour to our Reception 'Forest Area.'
Click on the links below to read our curriculum newsletters. On these, you can find out the topics that your children will be learning about, as well as information about home learning, PE days and general reminders for their year group.
If your child has grapes as a snack, could you ensure that these are cut into halves or quarters so that your child is able to eat them safely.
There is a huge amount of lost property at the moment. This will be displayed in the playground at pick up and drop off when the weather is good enough. Please ensure children's uniforms are named.
Thank you for sending your children in today with crazy hair to celebrate Red Nose Day. Between the Infants and Juniors, we are pleased to announce that we have managed to raise £1,141.79 for Comic Relief.
Please see below for some of the fantastically creative efforts. Well done!
We want to learn more about how we can help your school and LEO Academy Trust to improve parental engagement, so your time and honesty are much appreciated! This survey will ask questions about the communication between carers and school, confidence in the school’s strategy and other aspects.
If you would like to complete the survey, you can do so here.
Thank you for your time!
Eat Them to Defeat Them
This campaign to encourage children to eat more vegetables is coming into its seventh year. Involvement in this campaign has been proved to lead to increased vegetable consumption over the long term and with 29% of children eating less that one portion of vegetables a day it is important that we make every attempt to improve our children's diets. Look out for the daily vegetable that we will be encouraging your children to eat. Starting with carrots our catering team are adding a tasty and healthy carrot cake to the menu so your children can receive their 'eat them to defeat them sticker.'
In Nursery, we are reading Polar Bear, Polar Bear what do you hear? We created bears using paint and collage skills. We have also been looking at seasonal changes as part of Science. We observed signs of Spring and painted pictures of spring flowers.
Reception read Big Hair, Don’t Care this week. We drew the main character in our story and wrote a description of her. We learnt about different hair colours and types and about whose job it is to take care of hair! We then looked at other shops in the high street and local area. We wrote shopping lists and threaded pretend hair with pasta.
Year One have had a wonderful week and they enjoyed playing out in the sunshine. The children have really enjoyed creating their non-fiction Tiger books and have all confidently written questions and lots of facts.
In Maths, the children have been learning about tens and ones in teen numbers 10 plus 2 is 12, one ten and 5 ones is 15. We are very proud of them :)
In Science, the children enjoyed learning about reptiles and were very interested in the variety of reptiles and how some lay eggs and some give birth to live young.
In History, the children continued their learning about explorers. They learnt that Matthew Henson an explorer from 100 years ago and Felicity Ashton a present explorer. They loved using our new press play headsets!
This week, Year 2 became masters of the analogue clock! We took our learning outside and used giant chalked clocks in the playground to practice reading the time in 5-minute intervals – 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 minutes past each hour.
In English, we turned into report detectives! Working in pairs, we carefully examined non-chronological reports and highlighted their key features. We’re becoming experts at recognising how these reports are structured and organised.
Our science lessons took us into the animal kingdom! We learned how to use classification keys to sort animals into their different classes. We answered questions about their characteristics and used the keys to identify different groups.
Our geography skills took flight as we explored aerial photographs of London and a coastal town. We identified various human and physical features, from buildings and roads to rivers and beaches. We discussed how these features shape the landscapes we see.
The excitement continued with our Lego Spike project! The children put their coding skills to the test, programming the robot to act as an animal alarm. They successfully developed code that made a light flash when the colour detector sensed a creature of a specific colour. It was fantastic to see their problem-solving and programming abilities in action!
A busy and productive week for Year 2!
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.
