We would like to welcome our children and families back to school. We hope you had safe holidays and are looking forward to a busy term with plenty of opportunities for our children. We have attached some key reminders below.
A huge welcome back to all our families after the summer break! While the first day back felt decidedly autumnal with rain and a sea of umbrellas, we were so pleased to see the week end on a wonderfully sunny high. I am incredibly proud of how brilliantly our Year 1 and Year 2 children have settled back into school life. Our new Year 1 pupils have transitioned beautifully into their classes, already busy making new friends, with laughter and chatter filling the classrooms. We are also thrilled to announce that the playground is now complete, and we are so grateful to the Friends for their incredible support in making this happen. The children can't wait to play on it on Monday! Please remember that for safety reasons, no one should be playing on any of our play equipment after school, and this includes the equipment in the nursery and reception playgrounds. Friday saw our Reception children get their first taster of school, and we eagerly anticipate our school community being complete as our Nursery children begin their settling-in period on Monday. With our newly refurbished EYFS classes, featuring calm, neutral tones, we are looking forward to a tranquil start to the new academic year.
Mrs Hughes
We ended the week with an exciting new addition to our playground being finalised! We are so grateful to the Friends of Cheam Common for tirelessly fundraising and planning this amazing project. Our children are already so excited to use this new equipment next week.
Please ensure children are kept off of the equipment before and after school.
Tuesday 9th September 9am Year 1 Curriculum Meeting
Wednesday 10th September 9am Year 2 Curriculum Meeting
Friday 19th September 9am Seesaw Workshop (all year groups)
Thursday 25th September 9am Phonics Workshop (all year groups)
Please remember that any breaktime snacks for children should be healthy. Fruit and vegetables are encouraged, along with cereal or fruit bars. Crisps and chocolate are not permitted and children will be asked to return these to their lunchboxes.
It would be appreciated if all children's belongings were labelled clearly with their name, especially jumpers, coats and water bottles.
This survey is about parent/carer confidence in the support offered to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within mainstream schools in Sutton.
This survey is for parent/carers of all children and young people with SEND or suspected SEND. If more than one of your children has SEND, please complete separate surveys for each child.
The information you provide will help us to understand how parents and carers feel about current practices and identify areas where further support may be needed.
Please complete this survey by 30th September 2025.
If you would like to explore ways that our Family Support Worker could support your family, please complete this Google Form.
We look forward to sharing lots of photos of your children learning and growing every week. This week, we have been focusing on ensuring children are settled into school, and that they feel safe and confident in their new class. We will start sharing photos next week.
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
We will share any photos of children and their birthday books here every week!
Happy birthday and a huge thank you for your donation to your class!
We are looking forward to hosting our first Celebration Assembly of the term next Friday!
If you would like to share your child's achievements outside of school with us, we'd love to hear them! Please complete this short form to tell us all about it!
Reporting absences
There is no longer an option to report a child’s absence via telephone. We ask that you use the google forms below to report absence. They are also available to complete on our website using the parent tab.
We do not authorise holidays during term time. If your child is going to be off school due to an exceptional circumstance, then please complete this form:
Request for Exceptional Absence form in advance for future appointments and exception absence.
Cheam Common Infants' Absence Form for sickness and same day medical appointments.
Communication
To help us assist you more efficiently when you email the school office, we kindly request that you include your child's class along with their name in your correspondence.
While we know all our students very well, having the class information readily available helps us to quickly identify your child and address your queries without any delay or guesswork.
For example, please consider writing: "Regarding [Child's Full Name], [Class, e.g., Year 3 Elm]" in the subject line or at the beginning of your email.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will help us continue to provide the best possible support to you and your children.
Thank you for your understanding.
Moving address
If you have moved address, it is imperative that you inform the school office as soon as you have moved. It is a requirement that the school has up to date details particularly in case of an emergency.
Please email the school office ccioffice@leoacademytrust.co.uk if your details need updating. Alternatively you can update them using the Arbor App.
We are excited to announce that you can now log same-day absences for your children directly through the Parent Portal or Arbor App. Simply navigate to the Attendance section, click "Log Absence," and fill in the details. You can adjust the start and end times if it is not a full-day absence. Once submitted, school staff will review and either approve or reject the request. You will see approved absences in the Attendance tab.
Please note, this feature is only for same-day absences; for any extended or future absences, please continue to complete and submit the request for exceptional absence. We will also continue to use the same day absence google form. If you need to change an unapproved absence request, you will need to delete it and create a new one, as editing is not possible. Once an absence is approved, it cannot be deleted through the app, so you will need to contact the school for any further modifications.
This new reporting method will be used alongside our other established reporting procedures
Request for Exceptional Absence form in advance for future appointments and exception absence.
Cheam Common Infants' Absence Form for sickness and same day medical appointments.
