We would like to invite all of our children who are celebrating Lunar New Year on Wednesday 29th January to wear their traditional clothing to school on this day if they wish. This year is the Year of the Wood Snake.
Please note that this is not a MUFTI day.
We will be celebrating NSPCC Number Day on Thursday 6th February.
We would like to invite all children to wear number- and maths-themed costumes to school.
If you would like to donate money to the NSPCC, you can do so here.
This is a friendly reminder that Cheam Common Infants' is a nut-free school. This policy is in place to protect children with severe nut allergies, which can cause life-threatening reactions.
Please do not send any food items containing nuts to school with your child. This includes, but is not limited to:
All types of nuts: peanuts, almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts
Monkey nuts
Chocolate spread (e.g., Nutella, which often contains hazelnuts)
Chocolate filled crepes (e.g., Sainsburys own as these contain hazelnut filling)
Peanut butter
Baked goods that contain nuts or nut flour
Snacks and cereals that may contain nuts or have "may contain" warnings
Even trace amounts of nuts can trigger a severe allergic reaction in some children. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school a safe environment for all students.
This week, we have been working on our number bonds to 5 using aliens to help up. We have also been imagining what it would be like to be an astronaut, creating space suits and drawing the creatures that we think that we might meet in space!
As ever, finger fluency and outdoor play are important parts of our day.
Please remember to label your children's jumpers and coats.
Year One has had a very good week, full of lots of learning. The children have really enjoyed Halibut Jackson and enjoyed designing and labelling a suit that he would wear to the royal birthday party. They acted out the guests' reactions as he entered the party and have written lovely descriptions about this part of the story. In maths the children have been learning to subtract, using practical resources, by crossing out and using a part part whole. They have recorded number equations. In Art the children loved creating rubbings in and outside the classroom some of their shoes made great rubbings :)
In PSHE, the children found it very funny making a jam sandwich as they gave instructions, just like the steps they need to take to create a successful goal. In geography the children were weather reporters and they spoke clearly about the weather in the UK.
Pupils in Year 2 have been creatively exploring algorithms! They wrote detailed instructions for drawing a monster and then challenged their classmates to follow them. This hands-on activity helped them identify areas for improvement and understand the importance of clear and concise instructions.
Our English lessons have focused on honing persuasive argumentation skills. The children are learning how to construct convincing arguments, supporting their points with evidence and using modal verbs.
In mathematics, we've continued our journey of mastering multiplication. Students are developing a strong foundation in this essential skill working practically building groups of 2s, 5s and 10s.
Polite reminder...
As you know, we are a healthy school and therefore ask if your child would like to celebrate their birthday, they donate a book to a library instead of bringing treats. This also ensures there are no concerns over allergies.
Happy birthday! Thank you for your book donation.
