Meet Your Bulldog Coaching Staff
Kendall Candor
Kendall has coached for a total of 10 years. He was previously the JVR coach for Le Mars Community Schools (2022–2025). He coached at Red Oak Community Schools for 3 years (2019–2022), Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools for 2 years (2017–2019), and various schools throughout his college career (Storm Lake St. Mary's, Storm Lake Public, and Buena Vista University). This will be Kendall's 1st year as head coach, taking over for Trent Eckstaine.
Kendall is a product of the LCHS baseball program (2009–2013), where he played catcher for the Bulldogs. During his prep tenure, he earned First Team All-Conference honors during his sophomore and senior seasons, and Second Team All-Conference his junior season. He was named to the Second Team All-District team his freshman, junior, and senior seasons, and received First Team All-District along with First Team All-State honors his senior season.
Kendall went on to play at Buena Vista University from 2013–2017, where he was a part of an All-Conference championship team. He earned First Team All-Conference honors as a designated hitter (2016) and was a Second Team All-Iowa Conference selection (2017).
Kendall is a K-5 Physical Education teacher in Le Mars. His wife, Kennedy, is a 4th-grade teacher in the Le Mars school district and also coaches LCHS volleyball; they share two children: Emery and Beau.
Curt Gengler
Curt has been coaching for a total of 26 years, with 21 years at the Varsity and JV levels. Curt coached at Gehlen Catholic Schools for 7 years (2000–2006), 3 years at Le Mars (2007–2009), and 5 years at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools (2010–2014), before returning to Le Mars in 2021.
Curt is a Physical Education teacher for the MMCRU School District. His wife, Kari, is a kindergarten teacher in the Le Mars school district. They share two children: Keegan and Kenley.
Judd Kopperud
Judd has coached a multitude of sports for Le Mars Community. You may have seen him on the football field, on the basketball court, or on the baseball field. Judd brings positive energy and holds student-athletes to a high standard.
Judd is a guidance counselor in the Le Mars school district. His wife, Kari, is the elementary guidance counselor in Le Mars. They share three children: Kortney, Jordan, and Jess.
Mitchell Winterfeld
Mitchell comes to us with a vast knowledge of many sports! Mitchell graduated from Western Christian in 2020. He went on to study at Dordt University; earning a degree in K-12 Physical Education & Health.
Mitchell has founded his own AAU basketball program and has coached multiple high school level teams for the last 6 spring/summers. He was JV/Varsity basketball coach for one year at Boyden-Hull (2023-2024) season.
You may have seen Mitchell on the basketball court for the Le Mars boys basketball team, this is his second year coaching the Bulldogs!
Mitchell is a great addition with his work ethic and ability to prepare young athletes for the JV and Varsity level!
