Let's Continue to Grow Together! Here's a few ideas to start you off ...

*Update!!! Check out the 'Horticulture Choice Board' Included at the bottom of this page and select a new activity each week to try out! As you complete a project, send them to Ms. James via email so we can keep in touch on what you've been up to!*


*Seed packets have been sent out! Make sure to check your mail and try out your hand at germinating and growing veggie/flower seeds from home! You only need three simple household objects:

- Old Egg Carton (use bottom) or a few old cups!

- Fill with soil from outside! Plant 2-3 of seeds in each egg spot or cup about a knuckle deep and cover with more soil.

- Water and set in a window sill. Watch grow! Send pictures to Ms. James' email!


  • Keep working on your Plant of the Week Presentations!
    • Send to Ms. James and she will still enter into gradebook, post the link to your PowerPoints on this page for others to take a look at, plus you will find such interesting facts!
  • Germination Continued ...
    • If you have to get some groceries, grab a few Dixie Cups, or a seed germination tray, a packet of seeds from the garden area, and watch them bloom! Remember, all plants need to grow include: WATER, LIGHT, and AIR!
  • Pollination & Propagating 101 --
    • Since we we're on photosynthesis and pollination, watch The Bee Movie on Netflix and see how it relates to pollination!
    • Propagating and More! How does flower reproduction work outside of pollination?! Check out this video!

    • Create your own mock landscape architect mini model using a shoe box, and other random house hold items!
    • Send to Ms. James email, and we'll have a contest!
    • Once it gets warmer out, do some landscaping around your house! Pick up sticks and rocks that do not belong, begin brainstorming what flowers / plants could go where!
  • Greenhouse Management --
    • Brainstorm ... what do greenhouses allow us to do? Why are they so important? If Le Mars had a greenhouse, what would be the benefits of it? How would we be able to utilize the greenhouse to strengthen our agricultural program and the community?
    • Research the different types of greenhouses ...
    • Create your own model! Using Popsicle sticks, toothpicks, q-tips, cotton balls, pipe cleaners, or whatever other household items you have, create your own greenhouse model! Send a picture to Ms. James' email when complete and it will be posted here!
