In Swallows, we have been working on drafting 'Opinion Pieces' in English, and we have some lovely pieces of work being developed. We have a range of different subjects, from 'Do donkeys make great pets?' through to 'Is life in the country better than life in the city?', with the children attempting to persuade the reader towards their opinion. Even as a life-long Man Utd fan, Chipo's Opinion Piece 'Why Arsenal are the best football team', is difficult to argue with at the moment, but her writing is a great example of how to structure and construct a persuasive opinion piece, using good reasons, strong sentence starters, and rhetorical questions.
Also, thank you so much for your support and positive words when I met you at Parent Consultations on Wednesday. As a new teacher, it is always so encouraging when parents have lovely things to say about their child's experiences in the classroom, and so I thank you for your feedback.
In Swallows, we have been doing some great writing, both in Science and in English.
In Science, we have been exploring what is 'Under the Earth', and the class drew the layers of the earth and wrote about each layer.
In English, we are looking at Persuasive Writing, and the class had to persuade me to buy this old banger; not all the class managed to convince me to part with my cash! This will then feed into our work on writing a persuasive letter to apply for a fictional job, linked to the book 'Hidden Figures', which we are using as inspiration.
In Swallows, we have recently done some fantastic artwork. The class were creating Street Art designs for a mural that could be scaled up and created in a public space. Some of the designs and slogans have been brilliant - well done!
