During module 3, year 7 students worked on a groundbreaking research project led by the local arts organisation Electric Medway. Professional artists worked with the students alongside their teachers, exploring the impact of immersive technology on learning in visual arts. These digital pattern prints were inspired by our Islamic Art curriculum unit.
Pottery
Students were introduced to working with clay during module 2. They investigated Prehistoric art including Neolithic pottery and created impressed pots in response to the Neolithic wares.
Students started year 7 art in module 1 by developing drawing skills: drawing is the absolute foundation of all art forms. It is the first and most important skill in the visual arts as it is the skill that underpins all others. We introduce drawing at the start of the course to lay the foundation for furthering those skills in later units of work. Students began by learning how to see objects as simple shapes and forms, using these to create a scaffold to develop drawings upon. They made great progress with their skills and will return for further development with new media, techniques, and advanced subjects as they progress through the modules and years.
