Secondary School Transition 2022

We are delighted to welcome you to Leigh Academy Blackheath, a place where tradition meets innovation and potential is realised within a nurturing community.

We are so excited to welcome our fifth year cohort for the 2022-2023 academic year and hope that this LAB Transition Site meets its aim to prepare you and your child[ren] for the transition to secondary education.

This site is the home of this virtual programme and we hope you engage with it over the next few months in preparation for the year 6 to year 7 journey.

Core Values

These are the values that we require all teachers, staff, pupil and parent/carers to live by if they are a part of our Academy Community.

The LAB values underpin our ethos, vision, curriculum and day-to-day operation of our academy. They guide us everyday and help us ensure we approach the education of your children in a holistic, rigorous and nurturing way.

Respect l Integrity l Ambition l Scholarship l Resilience

How to use this site

The purpose of this site is to act a transition portal for parents/carers and for our future LAB pupils.

We are mindful and prepared for the fact that all children have had a prolonged period of time out of school and will not be able to experience the normal transition journey to year 7.

We have designed this site, in conjunction with our main website, to be the first port of call for all questions, information and transition activities. There is a Parent/Carer Homepage with a series of subpages to guide you through the process but, more importantly, the rest of the website is dedicated to our future students and getting them ready for the leap to Key Stage 3 at LAB. We have designed and posted a series of tasks to address their concerns and engage them with what learning and lessons look like at LAB.

Staying Safe Online

Keeping children safe online – updated guidance

The DfE has updated guidance for parents and carers about keeping children safe online. New information on apps has been added.

The BBC have a website and app called Own It. The website has a lot of content for children to help them navigate their online lives, and the free smartphone app comes with a special keyboard which can intervene with help and support in the moments that children need it the most.
