At Lehigh, Garba Night is a fun night filled with music, dancing, and free food! It is held in mid-October to commemorate Navratri, which is a festival that is widely celebrated in the Indian state of Gujarat. Garba itself is a form of dance that originates from Gujarat.
During this event, attendees have an opportunity to dress up in cultural clothing and learn the Garba dance from our members! It has also been a 5-by-10 opportunity for first-years.
Diwali is the 5-day "Festival of Lights," which celebrates the defeat of evil by good, and light over darkness. The 5 days of Diwali are all different in the ways to celebrate and you can read more about that here.
At Lehigh, the South Asian Students Association & India Club host the annual Diwali show, which consists of a humorous skit, musical numbers, and dance performances by our members. In addition, the show contains exhilarating performances from other Lehigh student organizations (such as LU Bhangra and Leela Indian Fusion) as well as outside performers (the Mayura and Vedanta Academies of Dance).
