News & Kudos from Board Members
Dr. Hoda Harati from Towson University was elected as the President Elect of the International Division for 2024-2025!
Dear International Division Members,
I hope this letter finds you well and filled with excitement regarding the recent announcements made by AECT. I'm thrilled to share that significant administrative and technical changes are underway, and they couldn't be more relevant to or beneficial for our International Division membership. Firstly, the new discounted membership rates demonstrate AECT's commitment to supporting individuals outside the United States in joining and actively participating in our vibrant community. Moreover, the introduction of an "online only" component to the annual convention promises to extend AECT's reach, allowing more people in more places to engage in the invaluable learning opportunities the convention offers. These changes, alongside the adoption of new platforms like Higher Logic and Oxford Abstracts, signal a renewed energy as we embark on the second century of being an organization.
I'm equally delighted to announce that our Awards Committee, under the guidance of past-president Nicole Wang-Trexler, has introduced an exciting new accolade for our division: the Best Proposal Award. This prestigious award will honor the author(s) of the most outstanding proposal submitted to the International Division and accepted for a concurrent session. I believe this initiative underscores our commitment to uplifting the research and practice of educational technology professionals and students worldwide. If you are interested, you can find more information about this award (and others) on the International Division website. The deadline for nominations is June 6, 2024.
Lastly, I want to encourage everyone to invite your friends and colleagues to join the International Division on Higher Logic. This robust platform offers a multitude of features that will enhance our ability to communicate and collaborate within and across AECT. If you haven't done so already, please take a few minutes to create an account on Higher Logic using our step-by-step guide. I see this becoming the central hub of the International Division.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing support of the International Division. Your dedication and enthusiasm are what make our community thrive. I’m looking forward to seeing you in-person or online sometime this year. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas you may have.
Warm regards,
Dan Hoffman
President, International Division
Aloha, Members of the International Division!!!
As president-elect, I thank you for strengthening the International Division. I take great pleasure in serving on the AECT 2024 planning committee. As you know, we are moving to two new platforms this year. HigherLogic and Oxford Abstracts are expected to make communications seamless and make the submission and reviewing of proposals easier. I am happy to add that we received several proposals for various session types this year, and I look forward to attending the sessions, supporting the presenters, and learning more.
Another new development is the format of conference meetings. We will be meeting both virtually and in person in Kansas City. The planning committee is trying to make your participation seamless in both formats. We want to see a strong representation of our International Division members online and in person.
Convention proposal authors will be notified of submission decisions on May 28th, 2024, and the final convention schedule will be available in early August. A special thanks to our members who have graciously volunteered to review proposals for our division. A big welcome to our members who attend the convention from across the globe. The new convention registration rates will encourage more participation from international members.
See you all in Kansas City!!!
Shamila Janakiraman
