Greeting
Greeting is a whole group activity where we cover a variety academics, social skills, expectations, routines, rules, etc. Here you will find what we are learning and links to sites we are using to reinforce our skills.
Large Group
At large group, we work on an activity that promotes body awareness, gross motor activities, multi-step directions, following directions, and/or taking turns.
Learning Target: Students will work on language and vocabulary as they sing about the different travelers that ride the bus. Students will also work on rhythm and beat through singing music. Students will practice social skills through taking turns to create new ideas for the song.
Plan/Recall
During this time, students perform a task that may work on a variety of skills. The skill is listed below. During plan, students plan their activities during work time. Students must describe the centers they will play in, what materials they will use, how they will use these materials and who they might play with. Recall is after work time. Students will perform the same activity listed below and describe what they actually did during work time. They will state where they played, what materials they used and how they used them, and who they played with. Students will also be asked to recall these events in the order they occurred.
Learning Target: Students will be learning about social turn taking and appropriate volume when talking with others as they use the whisper phones to explain their plan and recall.
Calendar
Calendar works on our kindergarten readiness skills by learning counting, recognizing numbers, patterns, shapes and additional math skills.
Number Bear: 2; counting one-to-one, number recognition, number relationships
September Pattern: Bus, Bus, Bus.
Joining Hands to Make 100: Counting one-to-one, number relationships; Counting by 1's and 10's.
Collect the number of buttons that equal the number of days on the calendar. Build groups of ten.
*Begins in October
Subitize (recognize a group of dots) and recognize numbers while playing memory.
*Begins in November. Starts with only Monday and adds a day of the week each month.
Monday: Let's Pattern
Tuesday: Let's Sort
Wednesday: Lets Explore Shapes & Space
Thursday: Let's
Friday: Let's Look at Data
Small Group
Small group is when the class is divided into two smaller groups to work on an in-depth lesson. The lessons are based on the student's interest to learn various skills such as pre-academics, social skills, exploration, problem-solving, fine or gross motor skills, etc. Students are engaged in a new small group each day, but some lessons need the flexibility to extend into multiple days.
Pumpkin Position Concepts: Students will learn about listening comprehension and positional concepts as the teacher tells a story about the pumpkin. The pumpkin will take an adventure around, under, on top, above, beside, next to, over, between, and many other places. The students will place their pumpkin in the appropriate placement with the story.
Three Little Pigs Story: Students will practice predicting and filling in the blank of predictable text when reading the story "The Three Little Pigs". This story will carry over into a STEM activity next week!
Make a Monster: Students will practice their counting and fine motor skills as they roll dice to determine how many pieces (eye balls, pom poms, etc.) on the monster they are creating. This will also promote creative representation.
Floor is Lava Concept Review: Students will engage in this fun activity to review letters and shapes we have learned so far this year. They will practice their gross motor and following directions skills as the teacher states, "Move like a _____!" "The red circle, the floor is lava! Move to the red circle! 10...9...8...!"
Fingerpaint: Students will integrate their sensory and motor skills as they use finger paint to illustrate a picture. We will discuss shapes that create pictures, and details. We are learning that pictures tell a story!
Interactive Read
Each week we follow a routine to work on our emergent reading skills while focusing on a story. The books we read meet a variety of genres through the reading curriculum provided by HighScope.
