Ways to Foster a Love of Reading at Home

• Read aloud with and to your child.

• Read books on topics they enjoy.

• Make it fun, reading should not be a chore.

• Be an example, let your child see you reading.

• When choosing a book for your child to read independently, use the

5 Finger Rule:

(Read the first page.) Count the number of words that were missed.

0-1: Too easy but can read for fun

2-3: Perfect

4: Up for a Challenge then give it a try

More than 5: Read with your child.
