Transcripts
For high school transcripts, LEC is listed as "Lee County Early College Hs" on CFNC. Super confusing.
For CCCC transcripts, Mr. Testa can help with sending unofficial transcripts. Email him to have this done. When you eventually need official transcripts, you'll need to go online through this link. The instructions from the CC website are below, too.
RDS - Residency Determination Service - If you are planning to attend an in-state public university next year, this needs to be completed so that you pay in-state (CHEAPER) tuition.
This needs to be completed each year.
You need to complete this if you are planning to attend an in-state, public university next year.
This will establish that you are a resident of North Carolina and you will pay in-state tuition.
Can also log into CFNC then go to Apply to College then Request and NC Residency Determination.
Complete RDS as soon as possible!
Students can watch an RDS video then start the process for determination. More residency resources are available, too.
FAFSA does not open until December. FAFSA stands for “Free Application for Student Aid” and is used to help ensure that students most in need of financial aid have access to scholarships, grants, work study, and loans. If you are planning to attend college next year, you should plan to complete FAFSA in December.
For now, you can create your FSA ID. These take up to three days to be created. You can use this this handy cheat sheet to guide you in helping with creating your FSA ID.

CFNC’s College Application Week is happening NOW!! - October 16-20. See what schools are waiving fees now. To have fees waived, you must apply through CFNC’s application hub.
When you go to submit the application and they ask for how you want to pay, either say “Fee Waiver” or another option that will not require you to pay at that time.
A few things about recommendations:
Ask your recommenders as soon as possible if they will be willing to write you a recommendation.
The recommender just writes one letter of recommendation that is then sent to multiple schools.
The recommendation letter should not mention specific schools, but should share about your strengths and accomplishments.
Once the recommendation letter is uploaded to Common App, the letter can be shared with whichever schools you choose.
CSS Profile
Some schools use FAFSA and CSS Profile for determining financial aid.
Schools in NC that also use CSS Profile are: Davidson College, Duke University, Elon University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest
Many selective colleges out of state also use CSS in addition to FAFSA.
Go to https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org/ to learn more.
When should you fill out the CSS Profile? Because CSS costs money to submit, possibly wait until you are accepted at one of the schools listed above.

Consider ACT scores, grades, GPAs
Consider acceptance rates
It is a good idea to apply to at least three schools.

Housing
Food
Additional costs: parking, laundry, utilities, etc.

Did you know that you might qualify for fee waivers for college applications?
The easiest way we can establish that you qualify is by verifying if you qualify for free or reduced lunch (FRL). Has your family applied for FRL this year? I know that the food is free for everyone this year, but it helps to apply anyway for things like this.
If you don't think your family would qualify for FRL because it's based on past earnings, but the situation is different somehow, then please talk with Ms. Jackson about that. You may qualify under other parts of the guidelines.
Here is a helpful article that provides valuable information about application fee waiver requests: https://blog.prepscholar.com/college-application-fee-waiver
There is another type of fee waiver request I don't think is mentioned in the previous article. This is the waiver from the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC). See more about the NACAC waiver request here: https://www.nacacfairs.org/learn/fee-waiver/

When I apply for a job or for a scholarship or to college, how do I ask someone to be a reference/recommender?
This should be someone that knows you well AND has positive things to say about you.
This should NOT be a family member.
Consider asking teachers or instructors, especially if they teach something in the field relevant to what you’re applying for. Asking a previous boss or a leader for an organization might be another idea.
If writing a recommendation, make sure they have time to write a quality recommendation - at least two weeks of time is a good rule of thumb.
