About me

I was employed by the U.S. Army as a combat engineer from 2008-2011. As a sergeant, I was responsible for the individual training, personal appearance and cleanliness of my soldiers. During training, I instructed a number of soldiers on land navigation, weapon operations, first aid, and demo (explosives) calculations; all of which involved the use basic math skills and components of algebra.

From 2011-2016 employed by Hoke County Public Schools (West Hoke Middle School and SandHoke Early College) where I served as the Algebra I/II teacher. I enjoyed my position in leadership as I trained, encouraged, and inspired young adults to become first-generation college graduates. I used teaching strategies such as classroom talk, collaborative learning, scaffolding, and use of technology as I did in my prior job experiences. I also taught skills that will be essential to know in higher math courses, such as Calculus.

During this period I also work for Tailored Training Programs, a private contractor on Fort Bragg. I was identified as a Subject Matter Expert working as a Master Trainer with the Cadre Professional Development program in the Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg. I provided individual and group tutoring to soldiers who to enroll in college. I assisted soldiers in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.

I served as the Student Resource Coordinator at Miller-Motte College in Fayetteville from 2016-2021. My role at Miller-Motte College included: building relationships with student, providing resources through community outreach, managing the campus library and technology, facilitating all online and hybrid courses, and training faculty/staff on the use of the Moodle learning management system (LMS).
