Welcome to Essentials of Healthcare!

Course Description

The Essentials of Healthcare is the second in a series of courses offered to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field.  We will conduct an indepth review of the human body systems focusing on anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology which will prepare students for the next course in the pathway.  We will also focus on skills and medical terminology pertaining to each body system. Anatomy and Physiology is a vital part of the most healthcare post-secondary education programs.

Meet the Teacher

Greetings! My name is Shanicie Danette Williams and I am thrilled to be your second year healthcare science instructor!  I was raised in Pelham, GA , graduated from Pelham High School,  and went on to pursue my Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University (2004). Upon graduation, I immediately enrolled at Troy University to obtain my Master of Science Degree in Management-Healthcare Concentration (2005) and later received my Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State University (2012).  I am also certified in Health and Physical Education and have both an English to Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) and Gifted endorsement.  This will be my seventh year at LCHS and 17th year teaching.

I believe in student-centered approach to learning. I feel it's important that I get to know every student individually and develop individual education goals for each that tie into our classroom learning. I am excited for the incredible adventure before me with this new school year and look forward to sharing it with you.

My husband, Torrey, and I have been married for 18 years and we have two amazing boys, Torren (15) and Brayden (9). When I am not teaching, I enjoy exercising, traveling, reading, and hanging out with family and friends.

They say your favorite class is the one that you like the most, but your best class is the one where you learn the most. If you work hard, this course will be both!
