Greetings Sanford Middle School Families & Friends,
It's hard to believe, but November is here and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Time is going by fast for sure. The students and staff are doing great things each and everyday at SMS. We hosted a College and Career Fair on October 28th with eleven vendors presenting engaging activities and providing valuable information to expose our students to the various careers, trades, and post-secondary learning opportunities. We are already making plans to make next year's fair bigger and better.
As we reflect on the month of November, the words thankfulness and gratitude seem to become a focus. We are grateful for the opportunity to prepare our students for life successes. We are thankful for being partners with our parents to continue to mold and develop our next generation. Please help spread the value of education and daily learning. We still have a long way to go. It is not just about passing a state assessment. It is about ensuring that our students meet their social, emotional, physical, and mental goals as well. These middle years can be very difficult for our students, but with the guidance of their parents, teachers, and other members of the community, our students are going to make it.
November is also the month to recognize our Veterans. Thank you to all of our Veterans that have sacrificed their time and energy to protect our freedoms we get to enjoy. We are able to live freely in this country because of you. Happy Veterans Day…SMS salutes you!
Please take a few minutes to read our monthly newsletter. Have a wonderful November and as always…
FLY, HORNETS, FLY!
Don't forget to set your clocks on November 6, 2022
School will be closed on November 8th (Election Day) & November 11th (Veterans' Day).
The Alabama Association of Middle School Principals (AAMSP) named Mr. Damian Sinclair as the middle school principal of the year. Mr. Sinclair will be honored at the 2022 Alabama Association of Secondary & Middle School Principals' Fall Conference in Perdido Beach on November 8th.
National Gratitude Month in November encourages us to embrace the power of gratitude. Everything in our lives has the ability to improve when we are grateful. Research has shown that gratitude can enhance our moods, decrease stress, and drastically improve our overall level of health and wellbeing.
Celebrating the month can be done in several ways.
Start a gratitude journal. Write about someone or something you’re thankful for every day. You’ll find your appreciation for those around you grows deeper and fonder the longer you keep it. When you read back on what you’ve written, you’ll be able to reflect on the relationships and their accomplishments.
Share your gratitude with others. Letting someone know you’re grateful for their care, service, or friendship often lifts their spirits or lifts a burden.
Show your appreciation by giving back to your community, neighborhood, or favorite organization.
Use #NationalGratitudeMonth to post on social media.

Below is the link to the list of items we would like to serve. Please sign up for any items that you would like to contribute to the event. Non-perishable items may be sent in earlier or on the morning of Nov. 16. We will have our students and staff outside in front of the 5th grade building to make drop offs quick and easy.
