If you are new to Ledger, the word “login” can feel confusing. Ledger live login is not comparable to the way a person logs into a social media account. There is no public “Ledger username” that holds your coins.

 Instead, the Ledger live app is a tool that helps you view accounts, install coin apps on your Ledger device, and send/receive crypto. Your real security comes from your Ledger hardware device and your recovery phrase. 

In this guide, we will explain to you how Ledger live login works, how to unlock the app on desktop and mobile, and how to proceed when you forget your password.

When people say Ledger live login, they usually mean one (or both) of these things:

• Unlocking the Ledger live app using a password (or PIN/biometrics on mobile).

• Unlock your Ledger device with your device PIN so you can approve actions (like sending crypto).
  
  

Note: Ledger Live does not hold your cryptocurrency similar to a standard online wallet. Your private keys stay inside your Ledger hardware wallet. Ledger live is like a secure control panel that works with your device. 

These are the simple checks you before you do Ledger live login: 

• Install ledger live only from the official Ledger site (ledger.com) or on official app stores.

• Do not enter your 24 word recover`y phrase in any website, app, form or message.

• If someone asks for your phrase to “fix” your wallet, it is a scam.

Here is the simple step-by-step way to log in (unlock) on your computer:

1. Open Ledger Live 

Launch Ledger live app on the desktop.

2. Enter your Ledger live password (if you set one)

If you turn on the password lock, you will see a lock screen. Type your password to unlock.

• If  you never set a password, you can directly enter into the app.

• This is a local password to your computer (it is not an account password online).

3. Connect your Ledger device

Connect your Ledger to a USB device.

4. Unlock your Ledger device with your PIN

Enter the PIN on your Ledger device (not on your computer).

5. Go to the Ledger device and open the correct coin app (when asked)

For example:

• Open the Bitcoin app for Bitcoin actions.

•  Open the Ethereum app for Ethereum actions.

Now you are logged in and are prepared to control your accounts within your Ledger live wallet.

Mobile login is also simple. The majority of the users use either device password, Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint.
1: Open the app

Open the Ledger Live App on your phone.

2: Unlock the app

Based on your settings, you might require:

• Your app password, or

• Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint

3: Link your Ledger device (for sending or adding accounts)

To send crypto, add accounts, or install apps, you usually must connect your Ledger device:

• Ledger Nano X / Stax: usually uses Bluetooth.

• Android + USB cable (OTG): should be compatible with part of the Ledger models.

•  iPhone: usually uses bluetooth models (due to the limited number of cables)

1. Password incorrect” on Ledger Live

Try these quick fixes first:

• Make sure Caps Lock is off.

• Try typing the password in Notepad first (to confirm it’s correct), then paste it.

• Restart Ledger Live.

• Restart your computer/phone.

If it still fails and you are sure you forgot it, use the reset option (explained below).

2. Ledger Live opens, but device is not detected

Try:

• Use a different USB cable (some cables only charge and don’t pass data).

• Try a different USB port.

• Close other crypto wallet apps that are likely using the device.

• On Windows, run Ledger Live as administrator (sometimes helps).

3. Bluetooth pairing issues (mobile)

Try:

• Switch off Bluetooth and then again switch on Bluetooth.

• Forget the device in Bluetooth settings, then pair again.

• Keep the Ledger device close to the phone.

• Keep your phone OS updated.

Always use the following habits when doing Ledger live login:

• Always check the address and amount on the Ledger device screen before approving a transaction.

• Keep your recovery phrase offline (paper/metal backup).

• Never install Ledger support apps, or other applications, which are offered through ads, random links, or unchecked sites.

• If Ledger Live shows a message asking for your recovery phrase, stop immediately—this is often a phishing trick.

If you lose the password of the ledger live app, you can reset it, but you will have to re-add your accounts within the app. Your crypto is not lost, because your private keys are still on your Ledger device.

On the lock screen, there would be an option such as “I lost my password” where the reset process is taken through. Ledger support guide describes the procedure of reset flow and warning messages.

After resetting:

• Open Ledger Live again.

• Connect and unlock your Ledger.

• Add accounts into Ledger Live (the funds will reappear when accounts are added).

Note: Resetting the app is not the same as resetting your Ledger device.

The Ledger live login process is simple when you understand how it works. You do not log in with an email or online account. All you need to do is open the Ledger live app and use your PIN to open your Ledger. 

Even if you forget the app password, your funds are not lost. You can reset the app and add your accounts again using your Ledger device. Always download Ledger live from official sources and never share your recovery phrase with anyone.
