My job title is ‘Creative’ at The Romans PR
Most days my job is all about thinking of ideas that will help brands get into the news, in a positive way. Once I’ve come up with those ideas, I have to think od creative ways to present them to those brands – using pictures and words. I work with Twitter, Ella’s Kitchen (baby food), CALM (charity), Franco Manca, PlayStation and many more. It’s a really fun and challenging job.
I studied Art at A-Level and then after my History degree I undertook a Creative Advertising course at the School of Communication Arts in Brixton, London which helped me land my first job at M&C Saatchi PR. They taught me how to use PhotoShop, create videos, and learn to ‘scamp’ which means to sketch or illustrate and idea quickly onto paper. These were really useful skills and have helped me to this day.
I would say to any aspiring students, make an online log of anything you create that you’re proud of. It could be drawings, poems, films, it doesn’t matter what. You’ll build a portfolio that one day someone could be really impressed with, and it might just be that extra-curricular bit of effort that makes you more appealing than the next person to hire.
