In Language Arts this year, your child will be reading both from an anthology of short stories from the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journey's Curriculum. Throughout these units of reading, your child will be fine tuning their ability to read skillfully, as well as employ reading strategies to help them truly analyze and understand both fiction and non-fiction texts as aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning standards.

Our grammar, vocabulary, and spelling further aligns with the short stories your child will be reading throughout the school year.

Further, your child will also be reading three whole novels over the course of the school year. The books your child will be reading are Wonder, Front Desk, and Number the Stars. It is also encouraged that your child be reading self-selected books throughout the school year.

Finally, your child will incorporate written analysis work of the literature they will be reading, as well as compiling a collection of writing in the form of Narrative, Opinion Writing, and an Informational Essay.
