Training & Dedication
What did a training day look like for you when you were playing professionally?
“It was two times a day, two hours, around. Two in the morning, and two in the afternoon, and after, plus, physical, it depends one hour or two hours.”
What did you like about tennis that made you want to give so much time and train so hard?
“What I liked was, I liked to travel, when I was younger, so I traveled a lot and it was very interesting to meet people and I liked that a lot at the start. But after, after some years, it was less… because sometimes you want to stay home with friends and all that, which you don;t have when you travel all the time, and when you are in your sport, especially in an individual sport, because then you feel a bit alone. Then some years pass, and if you don’t have very good results, you are a bit frustrated, and it’s not like with a team sport because you find yourself a bit alone.”
Performance & Reflection
What is your biggest strength in tennis?
“When I was a child it was my mentality because I was mentally strong, in th sense that I wasn’t scared of losing, I was playing for the pleasure of playing and I was trying to win. And physically, I was quite fast on the court I had no problems with moving on a court. And yeah, I had a good eye, I anticipated well the ball.”
In your tennis career, what achievement are you most proud of?
“It is that I played all the big tournaments around the world, all the grand slams, it’s that I had the chance to play those.”
