The Sunrise Award

AHC's first award

Members of AHC presented impressionist artists, looking into the artist's history, style, and best paintings. Yujin Wang the laurete of the prize showed his great understanding of the influence the impressionists had over art history with his presentation on Paul Cézanne.

AHC on the road!

During the school's sports day, AHC members posed Myron's Discobolus Statue. Ancient Greek statues inspired Renaissance art, with their accurate depiction of the human anatomy.

What if the
Pre-Raphaelites were from Geneva?

AHC's first creative project

From the starting question, AHC members collaborated on a collage piece taking inspiration from the pre-raphaelites and fauvists. They depicted real natural landscapes as the pre-raphaelites did by creating Lake Geneva and the Salève, and placed a scene from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1818), a Genevois classic, in parallel to how the pre-raphaelites depicted scenes from English classics. Additionally, AHC members took great liberty in the colors they assigned to each part, expressing their feelings through the colors. This decision was inspired by the fauvists, known for their beastly colors.

Baroque vs Surrealism

Which Movement is Cooler?

It's obvious that there is no objective superiority or inferiority to art movements. However, what would happen if we made two important historical artmovements: baroque and surrealism, compete?

Two teams of club members each represented a movement and fought through a best of three battle.

Winner: Surrealists

While sharing prior knowledge they had learned individually, The two teams competed to see which team could identify their key art history term: "Chiaroscuro" and "Subconscious".

While the Baroque team acted out the dramatic poses depicted in baroque paintings, the Surrealism team attempted to recreate the out-of-this-world figures in surrealist works.
