Learning and Study Strategies

Being an active learner is one of the most important elements of becoming an effective learner. An active learner purposefully and actively engages with the material they are trying to learn. Actively engaging with the material includes using study strategies such as making flashcards, creating practice tests, and taking notes.

> Graphic Organizers - A graphic organizer is a visual that depicts the relationships between facts, terms, and/or ideas within a learning task. Graphic organizers are also sometimes referred to as knowledge maps, concept maps or story maps. Graphic organizers can be used to brainstorm and organize ideas, to compare and contrast concepts, and to record key ideas.
