Grade 8 students from Ladysmith Secondary were recently invited to a Read Woke Book Tasting. The goal of the project was to expand students' literary taste buds.

Students were asked to look at three different books, read a few pages, make a few notes about them and decide whether or not they would check out the book. The book criteria included: challenging a social norm; giving voice to the voiceless; providing information about a group that has been disenfranchised; challenging the status quo or have a protagonist from an underrepresented or oppressed group.
