To read more about school start-up, families may want to read our Welcome to École Hank Grenda Middle School Newsletter.
On June 23rd and 24th, HS Grenda students showcased learning and/or passion projects that they were proud of. Students shared about inventions they presented before the Wolf Den “investors,” success at the recent entrepreneur market, creative stories they had written, sports competitions they competed in, and much more. This grade 7 student proudly displayed her beautiful paper flower art and had samples for classmates and other observers to take. Students did a great job discussing their learning highlights with teachers, parents and peers. Way to go, Grenda learners!
George Elliot has had a number of inquiries from Grade 8 families about their children's student schedules. At this time, only grade 9-12 students schedules are ready. Grade 8 schedules will come at a later date. If you want to be prepared to see your schedule on MyEducation BC, please follow the instructions below.
HMS Students would have created their MyEd portals earlier this year to do their course selection and were asked to keep their username and password somewhere safe. Login information is as follows:
Username: stu23firstname.lastname (case sensitive all lower case)
Students will then enter the password they created. If they forgot their password they will need to click on "I forgot my password" and enter their school email.
Primary email is the student's school email: firstname.lastname.stu@learn.sd23.bc.ca
They will then be asked to answer a security question which they created when they were setting up their accounts.
We had a number of families have asked if they can still buy a yearbook, eventhough they missed the ordering deadline. We have asked the publisher, Entourage Yearbooks, and they have a way for families to order directly from them. Ordered yearbooks will ship directly to your home and takes about four weeks to print and arrive. All funds are in USD and there may be border costs and taxes upon delivery. Click the link below to order.

As we head into summer, we wanted to make families aware of some important changes to rules surrounding E-Bikes and E-Scooters in Central Okanagan Schools. We recognize that some families may be considering purchasing some sort of electronic transportation for their children as a means for them to travel to-and-from school in fall. Before doing so, please read the information about provincial regulations regarding e-bikes and e-scooters below.
According to British Columbia's Motor Assisted Cycle (E-Bike) Regulation, there are specific age limits and safety requirements for operating e-bikes and e-scooters on public roads. Here are the key points:
Standard E-Bikes: Riders must be at least 16 years old.
Light E-Bikes: Riders must be at least 14 years old.
E-Scooters: Riders must be at least 16 years old.
Given these regulations, E-bikes and E-scooters will not be permitted for students at HMS in September. We encourage all students who want to ride to school to use traditional bicycles, scooters, or other non-motorized forms of transportation to ensure compliance with provincial laws and to promote safety. Always wear a helmet when you ride.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.

We are getting ready for the 2025-26 school year. An important first step is having an accurate count of our student population. Please let us know if you are planning on moving from our school community this spring or over the summer. Please email the HMS Welcome Centre at hms@sd23.bc.ca or call the school office at 250-870-5124.
If you know someone planning on moving into our community, please have them contact us as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help.
