What an amazing finish to an already amazing year in Battle of the Books! It was tough to make the team this year as it was the most competitive year we have seen since opening HS Grenda. Penny, Leah, Henry, and Simon represented HMS so well and grabbed second place in the grade 6 district final during the sudden death tie breaker questions. Well done crew!
French Immersion middle school students from all around our district will be participating in 'Faisons Un Boeuf' again this year on Wednesday, May 7th to celebrate French culture and music. Volunteers are needed to ensure a successful lunch that needs to be distributed to nearly 700 students. Please pass this along to other parents that might be available to help.

We are getting ready for the 2025-26 school year. An important first step is having an accurate count of our student population. Please let us know if you are planning on moving from our school community this spring or over the summer. Please email the HMS Welcome Centre at hms@sd23.bc.ca or call the school office at 250-870-5124.
If you know someone planning on moving into our community, please have them contact us as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help.
HMS wants to ensure that our students stay safe during PE classes, and a big part of that is wearing the right shoes. Athletic shoes are super important because they give the support and stability needed for all the running, jumping, and playing. They also protect feet from getting hurt and help prevent sprains and strains.
Please avoid sending your kids in sandals or Crocs for PE. These types of shoes can slip off easily and don't provide the support needed for active movement, which can lead to trips, falls, and other injuries.
Let's make sure all students come to PE with proper athletic shoes so they can have fun and stay safe. If you have any questions or need more info, feel free to reach out. Thanks for your help!

The Provincial Student Learning Survey is unique in its scope, size and usefulness to schools. It gathers information from parents/guardians/caregivers, teachers, and students on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. The information is used for planning in individual schools and provides a district and provincial perspective.
Early in 2025 the Student Learning Survey will be administered to grade 7 students at École HS Grenda Middle School, along with their parents/guardians/caregivers, and all school staff. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The surveys contain standard questions for the Province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included.
The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed on the Internet at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/student-learning-survey. Any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection can be used, and access to the e-survey is simple and secure. The survey can be accessed through the link and by clicking on Take the Survey. On the login page, click on the Parents icon, and then select the school district and school name where your child attends school. Provincial, District and School Reports for previous years can be viewed at the same site under the Results section.
The e-survey site will be open until May 2, 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact the office.
