Dear Families of Helen Gorman,
It’s that time of year again! We are excited to offer another opportunity for enthusiastic students of all ages to showcase their many talents at our annual Talent Show. All talents are welcome. In the past, we have seen singing, gymnastics, dancing, playing instruments, magic, comedy, spelling, sports skills, rubik’s cube solving, and more! Individual performances are usually the most successful unless you are certain you can arrange many after school opportunities for your child and their partner/s to practice.
Children will require adult support to help turn their talent into a polished, stage-ready performance (ie- if your child is talented at basketball, then perhaps they are excitedly telling the audience that they are going to showcase how many baskets they can score in 90 seconds and it's paired with a catchy, upbeat song and a request from the audience to help countdown the time or to keep track of baskets scored).
Please note the following important expectations:
Students may only be part of one performance.
Performances must be no longer than 3 minutes.
Any songs used must include positive language and messaging only.
The audition process and expectations are changing slightly this year, so please read the information below carefully.
Important Dates:
Feb 3rd – information meeting at lunch in Mrs. Soukeroff's classroom
Feb 19th – the very last day to hand in audition applications (no exceptions)
March 4th – all auditions on this day in the gym at 11:10am
March 12th – Talent Show day for all successful audition applicants
Tuesday, February 3rd
Students will be invited to an informational meeting at the beginning of lunch in Mrs. Soukeroff’s classroom. Students interested in participating will receive an application form to take home. If students are absent on this day or lose a form, extras can be found at the office.
The application form must:
Be completed with an adult
Be signed by an adult
Be returned to the classroom teacher no later than Thursday, February 19th - late submissions will NOT be accepted
Clearly and specifically outline the plan for the performance
Forms that lack sufficient detail may be sent home with questions, suggestions, or required changes and will need to be resubmitted.
If your child submits an application and later decides not to audition, an email must be sent to Mrs. Soukeroff and Mrs. Pendergast in advance of audition day.
**Wednesday, March 4th**
ALL AUDITIONS will take place on this single date in the Gym at 11:10am.
Students must:
Arrive in full costume
Bring all required props
Be stage-ready and fully rehearsed (ie- they look ready on that date to perform to an audience)
The school will provide microphones, gymnastic mats, speakers, and a piano. Any other materials or equipment must be brought from home.
Students who demonstrate clear preparation, confidence, and practice will receive a “golden ticket” and an invitation to perform in the Talent Show one week later on Thursday, March 12th at 12:15pm. While families are definitely invited to attend the Talent Show, we ask that only students attend the auditions.
Students who may be too shy to audition or who do not yet have a polished performance (for example, forgetting words to their song or whispering the next dance moves to the partners in their group) will be encouraged to continue practicing and try again at next year’s auditions.
If you know your child will be absent on audition day, please let us know as soon as possible so we can try to arrange another time for them to audition.
Thank you for your support with this process- it's not something children can accomplish alone. We look forward to seeing the incredible talent at HGE again this winter! If you have additional questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Soukeroff or Mrs. Pendergast alycia.soukeroff@sd23.bc.ca / erin.pendergast@sd23.bc.ca
Our lost and found is overflowing! We will be showcasing the items during our learning conferences on February 5th and 6th. Please take some time to look through the many lost items as we will be donating anything that remains after February 6.
A friendly reminder to connect with your child about ensuring they change their shoes! All students should have a pair of inside shoes as our hallways and carpets are getting very dirty with shoes that are worn outside given how wet the grounds! Thanks for your help.
The Westside Warriors visited all our classes and played a game of floor hockey against our grade 5 students.
Our Grade 3 Indigenous students had the opportunity to join the annual Primary Winter Gathering with all the grade 3 Indigenous students across our school district. Our Indigenous Advocate, Ms. Cindy Paialunga joined the event with our students. The Primary Winter Gathering is a celebration of culture, community and connection.
Central Okanagan Public Schools is hosting two different opportunities for parents to share their voice and connect with the district as a whole. The first is a Public Engagement Session for staff, leaders, students, families, and partners to help imagine the future for our students. Your participation matters and we’d love to see you at the West Kelowna event on Thursday, February 5, 2026 (6:00–9:00 p.m.) at Mount Boucherie Secondary School in the main foyer. The focus of this event will be based on these four questions:
When you think about the world students are entering today, what do you believe students need most from their experiences in our schools to be successful?
When you think about the future, what ideas do you have that would improve student learning for all students?
What would help families feel more meaningfully involved in supporting student learning?
What is one change that would make schools healthier and more supportive places for students, staff, and families?
You can register by clicking HERE.
The second is a Parent Symposium (COPAC Partnership). Central Okanagan Public Schools is pleased to collaborate with COPAC on a Parent Symposium designed to deepen two‑way engagement and amplify family voice on Saturday, February 28, 2026 (8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) at the School Board Office in the Education Learning Centre at 1040 Hollywood Road South in Kelowna.

The Provincial Student Learning Survey is unique in its scope, size and usefulness to schools. It gathers information from parents/guardians/caregivers, teachers, and students on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. The information is used for planning in individual schools and provides a district and provincial perspective.
Early in 2026 the Student Learning Survey will be administered to students in grades 4, their parents/guardians/caregivers, and all school staff. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where stretches to focus improvement.
The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed on the Internet at by clicking HERE. Any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection can be used, and access to the e-survey is simple and secure. The survey can be accessed through the link by clicking “Parents” icon under the section titled Take the Online Survey, then select the school district and school name where your child attends school. Provincial, District and School Reports for previous years can be viewed at the same site under the Results section.
The e-survey site will be open until May 1, 2026. You can find out more about the survey by reading the attachment HERE.
If you have any questions, please contact the school at 250-870-5116 and ask to connect with Jessica or email jessica.anjos@sd23.bc.ca.

Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5s who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Dani Walls by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
