Fictional Reading Response Questions
1. Describe the main character in the text. Use evidence to support each trait.
2. Explain how the character changes throughout the story. Make sure to include what causes the character to change. Include specific text details to support you response.
3. Describe three main events that are important to the story. What is the turning point in your opinion? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.
4. Using specific evidence, describe three cause and effect relationships from the story.
5. Who was telling the story? What evidence from the text supports your answer? How would the story have changed if it were from a different characters point of view?
6. In your opinion, what is the theme of the story, or message the author was trying to convey. Use three pieces of evidence from the text to support your answer.
7. Using specific evidence from the text, describe in depth the setting of the story where most events take place. Describe how this setting is important to the story. How would the story change if it took place somewhere else?
8. Describe a problem faced by the main character using specific text evidence. What is the character’s perspective or motive for his or her actions? How did the main character finally solve the problem?
