Welcome to Fifth Grade Science and Math!

E-LEARNING INFORMATION:

I hope you are all well and safe. Today begins a new chapter in public education. It will certainly present a new learning curve that we will all have to navigate together. It will be extremely helpful to make sure we are all in communication with each other so if you need to contact me, please email me at the gmail address below.

My goal is to provide remote math & science instruction in an organized, clear and stress-free way for students and parents, while holding our children accountable for their learning. All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. They will be dated to help make it easier for your children to find assignments and stay on track.

Basic Assignment Information:

• Assignments will be posted to my MATH and SCIENCE Google Classrooms - (please check daily).
• Assignments should take about 20-30 minutes per day / per subject (that is time spent on task).
• New assignments will be labeled by remote learning day and a date.
• Each posting will contain instructions for the day as well as material/video links as needed.

Gmail:

• The district has opened the Gmail accounts for Middle School students to use during remote learning. Students may email me anytime with questions or comments at roppoloa@pearlriver.org

Commenting in Google Classroom:

• The ability for students to comment and ask questions in our Google Classroom streams will be extremely valuable and comforting during this difficult and stressful time. Please remember to keep your comments appropriate and relevant to the assignment; it is not a "chat room". While no teacher wants to do it, be aware that teachers do have the ability to "mute" individual students who are unable to follow the Google Classroom guidelines.
• PARENTS - If you have any questions or comments for me, feel free to email me but please do not use the Google Classroom "stream" to post comments. Comments posted in the stream are intended for student use only and can be seen by anyone in the classroom.

This site has been developed to make the fifth grade science and math experience a fun and productive one. As you navigate through this site (see page links in green bar at top of screen), you will find many sections designed to help students and parents throughout the year. The "Home" page is where general information and announcements will often be posted. "Daily Slides and Homework" is a valuable area as it will allow students to see a brief description of the current day's activities as well as homework for the day. This will allow students stay current even if they miss class due to band, orchestra, illness or vacation, etc. There is also a "Science Related Websites" page which contains links to sites that will support and reinforce our science curriculum. Last, but not least is the "Science 5 Documents" page. Here you will find downloadable, printable versions of just about any worksheet, notes, or other document given to the students in class. There are even copies of all of the workbooks given out for each unit. Forgot to bring your workbook home? No problem, just locate, print and complete the assigned page from the workbook and you're all set for the next day!
