Agricultural Age

  • This is the age of farmers
  • Agricultural age people are stationary : You can't be nomadic if you are farming
  • Technology becomes more specialized and complex . People begin to pay others to make things for them
  • Agricultural age people try to take control of nature to meet their needs and make their lives more predictable

The two most important developments of the Agricultural Age are:

1. DOMESTICATION : taming wild plants and animals

Domesticated animals include: horses, cows, dogs, pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, etc.

Domesticated plants include: corn, wheat, rice, fruit, vegetables, cotton, etc.

2. SELECTIVE BREEDING: Controlling which animals and plants reproduce in order to encourage the features you want and discourage the features you don't want
