"Sundiata Keita(1230-1255) was a Malike prince. His name means "lion prince. and he fought the wars against the kingdom of Sosso from the 1230s." In the year 1240 Sundiata was trying to form a centralized government that involved tribal leaders. The assembly also known as the Gbara decided to declare Sundita as the supreme monarch. The assembly gave him such honorary titles such as the Mari Diata which means the lord's lion.
The founding of the Mali Empire dates to the 1200s when a ruler named Sundiata Keita—sometimes he was called the “Lion King”--- he led a revolt against the Sosso king and united his subjects into a new state.
The Empire also for the legendary tale about the riches concern . The ruler at the time who’s name was Mansa Musa who made a stopover in Egypt during a 14th-century pilgrimage to Mecca. According to contemporary sources,Mansua Musa dished out so much gold during the visit that he caused the value of gold to plummet in the Egyptian markets for several years after his visit.
