1. Be Kind - this means being respectful online. Be polite even when you disagree with a comment or a post. There is a proper way to express your feelings without being rude or using aggressive language to another. Keep this in mind: would you say these words if you were face-to-face with someone?
2. Be Safe - this means protecting your privacy online. Don't overshare your information such as your address, phone number or any other information that could breach your privacy. Giving your passwords to your friends is not a great idea either.
3. Be careful about sharing - learn about copyright laws and make sure to give credit to whoever's work you are sharing. If your friend takes a picture and send it to you and you want to share it, make sure to say that this friend took the picture. Also, make sure if you share a group picture that everyone is okay with this picture being shared to a wider community.
4. Be a Mindful Poster - remember whatever you post will be there forever. Even if you delete it, it can still be out there in the digital world.
5. Be a Critical Reader - don't believe everything that you read on the internet. There are all types of information - some good and some bad. Evaluate all information to ensure it is credible and reliable information that does not contain a bias.
6. Be a Responsible Citizen - if you see cyberbullying taking place, report it to the school administration or teacher.
7. Take care of Future You- do you need to post everything on your social media account? No. Think about your future self. Employers will look at your social media accounts and see how you behave online. Go back to Rule 1 - Be Kind.
