5th Grade Pacers

Hey there 5th grade Roadrunners!

For all of you that were disappointed that you couldn't complete your pacer testing, here's all that you need to do it on your own! Below you will find video of my kiddos doing level one and the audio track that we all love so much. ;) You will need to mark off a 20 meter area (65.6168 feet) with either cones or chalk. When you start your pacers, remember to pace yourself. It starts off slow and progressively gets faster. You don't want to burn all your energy on level 1. Remember, you are allowed two form breaks, with the first form break counting as a lap. After the second form break, you are done and it does not count as a lap.

Healthy Fitness Zone Goals:

Age 10: 17 laps

Age 11: 20 laps

Enjoy Roadrunners and keep those bodies movin' and groovin'!

Hopscotch - Obstacle Course Edition

💜💪Hi Roadrunners! 💪💜

This week we are building on our hopscotches!

You’re going to add activities to make it an obstacle course! We’ve added hopping, skipping, crab walking, walking the line, frog hopping, hop scotching, and finally spinning to our obstacle course!

Feel free to use your imaginations and I can’t wait to see what yours looks like!

Keep movin’ and groovin’ and remember to have fun while building those muscles and working on motor skills!

Meep! Meep!

Hopscotch!

💜💪Hi Roadrunners! 💪💜

This weeks PE challenge is to play hopscotch! It’s a great game to play by yourself or with a family member!

Objects needed:

-A piece of cardboard to act as a stencil - we used a 12x12 piece but I would recommend 16x16.

-chalk (if playing indoors, you can use painters tape to mask off the court)

-a marker for each player (coin, bean bag, etc)

You’ll use the cardboard to stencil out your court like so and number each box accordingly.

To Play the Game:

-Each player takes their turn to throw his or her marker on the board, starting with the first square.

-The first player hops on one foot to each square to the end of the board. If two squares are next to each other, use both feet, one in each square. The player must avoid the square that contains their marker by hoping over it. The player will hop to the end of the court, then turn and hop back, retrieving their marker. The next player will go until all players have had a turn.

-A player loses a turn if he or she steps on a line or his/her marker bounces out of the square when tossed.

-After the first square, each player attempts to throw their marker into the second square and then hops through the court again. You continue until the last square. Because some players may lose a turn, not all players will necessarily be on the same square at the same time.

-The first to get his or her marker to the last square wins.

Enjoy Roadrunners and keep movin’ and groovin’! Meep! Meep! Feel free to drop a photo in the comments! #RoadrunnerPE

💜💪Hey there Roadrunners! 💪💜

This week’s #RoadrunnerPE challenge is the wall sit. 💪

When doing this challenge, make sure your back is flat against the wall and feet are shoulder length apart from one another You’re going to slide down into a sitting position, bending your knees until they are at a 90 degree angle and above your ankles.

Hold the position until muscles feel tired.

Enjoy Roadrunners and keep up that physical activity! Meep! Meep! Feel free to drop a photo in the comments! #RoadrunnerPE

Plank Challenge

Hi Roadrunners!

Not only do we want to keep those minds growing but we want to keep those bodies moving and grooving!

This week we are introducing the Roadrunner Plank Challenge. A proper plank means keeping your core and hips lifted, keeping your body in a straight line. Hands or elbows should be positioned under your shoulders and remember to keep that neck neutral.

TK-2 Aim for 30 seconds

3-5 Aim for 60 seconds

For a fun variation, be sure to try ABC planks. ABC planks does require a partner, so grab a parent or sibling and ask them to participate.

ABC Plank Directions:

Two individuals face each other in a pushup position, hands should be under their shoulders. Each person lifts their right hand, slaps hands, says A, and sets their hand down. They then repeat using the other hand, going through the alphabet.

The focus should not be on how quickly you can finish, but on how still you can keep your body.

Enjoy Roadrunners and keep up that physical activity! Meep! Meep! Feel free to drop a photo in the comments! #RoadrunnerPE

Please note that the student in the photo is an immediate family member in our household.
