Foreign Language Graduation Requirement
Students in LISD are required to graduate with languages other than English or LOTE credits. Depending on their graduation plan, students will need either two or three years of the same LOTE course (i.e. Spanish 1, 2, and 3). Students have the opportunity to take the highs school credit Spanish 1 course in 8th grade at WMS. Successful completion of this course will allow students to earn 1.0 credit toward their LOTE requirement prior to starting 9th grade.
Earning Credit Via Testing
WMS only provides Spanish 1, but if your student wishes to take a different language than Spanish 1 or doesn't have room in their schedule for Spanish 1, you may either wait for high school or attempt to earn credit via testing.
The Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages or AAPPL- LISD will pay for the first administration of the AAPPL exam, a student can skip levels of a previously known language and earn credit for the levels skipped. This exam is designed for students who can speak, read, and write fluently in a language other than English.
**Not all languages are offered for the AAPPL exam. Please refer back to the LISD World Languages Website for more information.
Registration Link for AAPPL Testing will open soon!
