What does reading intervention look like in Leander ISD?
Reading Specialists provide intervention in the general education setting for students in kindergarten, first, second, and third grades who are at risk for reading difficulties and need additional support. All students are assessed to identify those who may be at risk for reading problems. Student scores determine who meets district qualifications for intervention. Students may be added to the program throughout the year as they meet program qualifications.
How are students served in Reading Intervention?
Students are typically served for 30 minutes daily in a small group setting. Sometimes groups take place within a grade level classroom and sometimes groups take place in the reading room. This may include assessment and progress monitoring. The reading intervention time is in addition to your child’s small group reading instruction time in his/her classroom. Lessons are specifically designed to reinforce and build skills in deficit areas. Students are exited from reading intervention as their reading abilities improve and they no longer demonstrate the need for services.
