Welcome to the
2020-2021
School Year
Welcome to a new school year and welcome to 1st grade! This will be an interesting year for us all as we start with virtual learning. Hopefully, we will get to be back in our physical school environment soon. Still, we will build many wonderful memories throughout the year, so let's get started with some of the essential things you need to know in order to make this year a success!
Communication
You should be receiving information from me via email. I will be sending communication through the email addresses in the Home Access Center. Please be sure to update email addresses there, so that I can keep you informed. :)
Just a few reminders for in-person learning:
*When we get back in our classroom, remember to send in a healthy snack with your child every day starting on the first day of in-person school.
*Be sure to write your child's name in permanent marker on any new jackets, sweaters, etc. This will make it easier for lost items to be returned to the correct child.
Reading Folder
Your child should be bringing home his/her yellow Reading folder every day (Monday-Thursday) once folders are initially sent home. Your child should be practicing the ABC chart, Blend chart, all sight words, and reading the book in the folder on a nightly basis. A good rule would be to place the folder immediately inside the backpack after reading and signing for the night.
Food Allergies
We have several students in 1st grade with food allergies and sensitivities that vary from mild to more severe which could possibly be life threatening. Please remember that we are not a “Nut Free” campus and that there are other severe allergies to other foods as well.
Please help us remind and teach your students to “NOT” share food. They should ask an adult if another student needs food.
Extra Clothing
Please keep a change of clothes in your child's backpack – even upper grades as sometimes clothing malfunctions occur, or milk or glue or some other thing gets spilled on clothing.
Transportaton Changes
Please remember, transportation changes, if needed, need to be made before 1:00 pm each day.
Snacks
There will be time for a snack every day. If possible, please send something that is healthy and easy to eat. Also, please send your child with a labeled water bottle every day. My procedure is for students to keep their water bottle on their desks, so that it is easily accessible.
