Experience
I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.F.A. in Visual Art Studies. This is my 23rd year as an Art Educator. In addition to teaching, I have led workshops for fellow art educators in the district, region and state, taught after school and summer enrichment programs, written district art curriculum and am an active member of the Texas Art Education Association.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that art is a vital and foundational component of every child’s education. It nurtures independent and creative thinking, encourages self-expression, and fosters a deeper understanding of the world. Through art, students learn to make cross-curricular connections while developing critical problem-solving and 21st-century skills.
All of my K–5 art lessons are thoughtfully designed using the TEKS standards and district art curriculum as a guide. I employ a blended teaching model that supports differentiated learning, ensuring each student has meaningful and engaging experiences tailored to their needs.
To truly teach the whole child, I believe in providing a rich variety of experiences in the art room. My instruction focuses on building technical skill and artistic rigor, while also nurturing creative thinking, problem-solving, work ethic, student choice, and a sense of empowerment.
Equally important is creating a classroom environment where all students feel respected, valued, and safe to take creative risks. My goal is that each student leaves my class with a strong foundation in the visual arts, as well as an appreciation for its role in culture, history, and personal expression.
