• Students in 1st -5th grades are screened for QUEST-G/T in the Spring Semester using Middle of Year (MOY) data. (updated 2022)
• Every Kindergarten student is screened in the Spring Semester of their Kindergarten year.
• Students in grades K-12 may be referred during the Spring referral windows by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, self, or peers. The person referring a student should complete the online referral forms. These students will be screened during the next testing window.
The referral window for Spring 2026 Screening is currently open.
The referral window for Spring 2026 is currently open and will close on March 1.
Screening is the first step in the identification process. Parents, guardians, or other adults active in the student's life should complete both forms below. This information will be scored and added to the student's Middle of Year academic indicators (MAP, ISIP, and Running Records for Reading), in addition to recommendations from teachers or other North ES staff members. Please read the selections below to find out more about the process.
Parent GIS form Parent Referral Survey
As you complete the forms above, please compare your child to other "average" children of similar age. Not sure what is "average" for your child's age- check out these two online sources-
After all data has been collected (see above), you will receive an email to explain next steps. Students MUST have at least 3 indicators of 90%ile or above to move to the testing process. Completing the parent forms above are NOT a guarantee that your student will move to the testing phase of the identification process.
If you have any questions, please email tangy.legerbelland@leanderisd.org.
2025- 26 Elementary QUEST Screening Windows
QUEST testing is completed during the Spring Semester. The only exceptions are transfer GT students who provide documentation of participation in previous GT programs. This should include any scores from standardized testing such as CoGAT, NNAT, etc. and proof of participation. In order to expedite the verification process, please provide our registrar, AnnaLisa Martinez, with copies of documentation at the time of registration.
Identification is a multi-step process
Step 1: Screening and Testing. The purpose of the screening is to identify those students who demonstrate potential in the areas of General Intellectual Ability and Creative Thinking. Our screening indicators at this time (25-26) consist of MAP scores, ISIP scores, Reading Level, teacher surveys, and parent surveys. MAP and ISIP scores must be in the >90%ile. Parent and teacher surveys are scored and must meet eligibility criteria as stated in district guidelines. If students demonstrate at least three indicators, additional intellectual and achievement data will be collected to make placement decisions.
Step 2: Placement. To qualify for QUEST-gifted services, students must score in the 95%ile or higher on standardized intellectual ability/achievement tests.
The QUEST-G/T teachers at each campus gather the screening and identification measures. The measures are evaluated and scored by the QUEST-G/T Identification and Placement Committee. This committee is made up of all the district K-12 QUEST-G/T teachers, plus the district coordinator and director. All have at least 30 hours of training in gifted education plus additional hours of training in testing and identification of gifted students. Placement decisions are made by this committee.
