Students will learn about animal camouflage and adaptations, as well as other facts about fascinating animals. Click here to learn more and order your own copy of the book.
Coming soon in Wednesday folders!
Did you know that the library, office, support staff and specials teachers are always in need of tissues? Last year, students were invited to participate in a storybook pumpkin patch. They decorated pumpkins to look like book characters. This year, we would love for students to bring that same creativity and decorate a NEW tissue box to look like a character from a book! The tissues will take care of sniffly noses, and the fun boxes will brighten up rooms all over the school. Tissue boxes are due Friday, September 15!
Get ready for North Elementary's second annual spelling bee! Students in grades 1-5 are invited to participate. Just before Thanksgiving break, students will receive a word list to study for their class spelling bees. Class bees will take place in December. Students who place first or second in their class bee are invited to compete in our school spelling bee, which will be held in January. Our champion and runner up will advance to the next round. This is an exciting opportunity for students to challenge themselves and develop their reading and writing skills at the same time.
Our fall book fair will take place at the end of October (10/23-10/27). This fun week will coincide with our school's celebration of reading and literacy dedicated to the namesake of our school: Carol North Night on October 26. Watch for more information about volunteering and setting up eWallets in your child's Wednesday folder!
Coming soon: Details about an event hosted by LISD for fans of Peter Brown's Wild Robot series. The third book, Wild Robot Protects, will be released in September.
Every year, students in LISD review guidelines for using technology in a safe and responsible way. Part of this introduction incorporates Be Internet Awesome, a curriculum developed by Google to teach online safety and citizenship. This is a great time to talk with your families about staying safe online, what to share and what to keep secure, and being kind on the internet.
It's time to starting reading Bluebonnet Books! Students in grades 3-5 should read at least five books from the list to be able to vote for their favorite. We are tracking which books we have read so that we can see what books we have been enjoying! Find out more information on the Bluebonnet Books tab.
