Grading Policy
50% Rehearsal and Daily Work
50% Performances and Projects
Rehearsal and Daily Work
We work daily towards achieving a greater goal, whether that is a performance or a different type of project. In a theatre class, one must participate fully to learn. Points can be deducted from this daily grade for being unprepared, making the decision to not participate in an activity, not following directions, and otherwise not adhering to set classroom expectations. Rehearsal grades are NOT affected by absences and grading will adhere to all IEPs, BIPs, and 504 plans and paperwork on a student by student basis.
Performances and Projects
"Tablework" is a theatre concept referring to the behind the scenes work done to prepare for a performance. Translated into the classroom, this category includes all research work done for a project and all written work in class. Quizzes are included in this category as well. Areas that may affect grades include professionalism, quality of content, adherence to standards, and organization
Performances and projects are graded on rubrics that vary based on the end educational goal of the work. Rubrics typically include, but are not limited to, theatrical concepts such as characterization, enunciation and diction, neatness, memorization, accuracy of information, and technical aspects.
Late Work
Late written work will be accepted without penalty by 5:00 PM on the due date. After the due date, the grade is capped at a 70 until after five school days. After five school days, the work will no longer be accepted, and the grade will become a 0. If a student consistently presents late work, he or she will meet with faculty to make a plan for success.
Make-up Work
Per school policy, students will have one day per each day missed to complete missed work. Students are urged to contact the teacher as soon as possible to discuss any extenuating circumstances and develop a plan for successful learning. If a student is absent on a performance day, he or she may be able to perform on the first day they return.
