Google Classroom Resources
Parents and Guardians,
We will be using Google Classroom for the 2025-2026 school year. As a parent/guardian, you can be invited to join our Google Classroom in order to receive important classroom information. All you need to do is share your preferred email address with your student so it can be passed along to me OR email me directly. Then, you will receive an invitation to join our Google Classroom.
If you have previously subscribed to receive parent/guardian email summaries (from a former Google classroom teacher), you should be automatically subscribed to receive summaries. You can verify this information with your student and/or me.
What does this mean exactly? When parents/guardians join a student’s Google Classroom, they receive regular, automatic email summaries. Parents/Guardians choose the frequency of the emails—daily or weekly—and can unsubscribe at any time. Note: Daily means Monday to Friday. You won't receive email summaries on Saturdays or Sundays.
The Google Guardian Email Summaries include:
Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.
Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.
Guardians who sign up for email summaries can’t see the Stream, Classwork, People, or Grades pages in Google Classroom.
Thanks for supporting your student and joining our Google Classroom to receive daily or weekly email summaries!
Advanced Placement Psychology Course Syllabus and Survival Guide
Purpose of the Course
The purpose of the Advanced Placement course in Psychology is to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. They also learn about the ethics and methods psychologists use in their science and practice. (From the Advanced Placement Course Description for Psychology, published by the College Board.)
Course Objectives
1. Students will prepare to do acceptable work on the Advanced Placement Examination in Psychology.
2. Students will study the major core concepts and theories of psychology. They will be able to define key terms and use these terms in their everyday vocabulary.
3. Students will learn the basic principles of psychological research. They will be able to devise simple research projects, interpret and generalize from results, and evaluate the validity of research reports.
4. Students will be able to apply psychological concepts to their own lives. They will be able to recognize psychological principles when they are encountered in everyday situations.
5. Students will develop critical thinking skills. They will become aware of the danger of blindly accepting or rejecting arguments without careful, objective evaluation.
6. Students will build their reading, writing, and discussion skills.
7. Students will learn about psychology as a profession and become aware of the educational requirements which must be met to pursue such careers. They will learn about the ethical standards governing the work of psychologists.
Grading Guidelines
Your grade will be determined by your performance on tests, quizzes, and daily assignments. Performance standards will be set at a high level. Setting a high standard has several tangible benefits for you. You will learn a great deal of psychology, you will be better prepared for college, and you will be ready to excel on the national Advanced Placement Examination in May. Let’s make sure that Vandegrift High School has the best performance record in the district on the AP Psychology test.
Grade Categories & Percentages:
Exams: 50%
Quizzes: 30%
Daily Grades: 20%
Retake Guidelines:
Fall Semester & Spring Semester (Investigations in Psychology; Advanced Placement Psychology): In the event that a student fails a quiz or an exam, or receives a quiz or exam grade below 80%, he/she will have the opportunity to complete ONE retake assignment per SIX WEEKS in order to demonstrate their mastery over the content. The retake assignment will be different from the original quiz or exam, and the highest possible grade will be 80%.
**The student must make arrangements with the teacher within 5 days of the grade notification in order to complete the retake assignment.
**Students must complete the quiz/exam corrections assignment before being allowed to complete the retake assignment.
**The retake opportunities EXCLUDE the Midterm/Final Exam.
**There are NO alternative assignments for daily grades.
Late Work Guidelines:
Fall Semester & Spring Semester (Investigations in Psychology; Advanced Placement Psychology): All daily grades are required to be turned in by the due date/time in order to receive a mastery grade up to 100%. All daily grades that are submitted after the due date/time may receive a mastery grade up to 70%.
Absent Work Guidelines:
Fall & Spring Semesters (Investigations in Psychology; Advanced Placement Psychology):
"Students who are absent for any reason must make up the work they missed.
• It is the student’s responsibility to check with each teacher the day the student returns from any absence to determine the:
1. Make-up assignments,
2. Specific dates for completing the work, and
3. Dates to complete any missed tests.
Note: based on the A/B schedule at the high school level, the term “one day” is equivalent to one class period.
When a student is absent from class due to illness, upon his/her return, the student will be allowed one day for each day of absence to make up the assigned work and/or take a quiz/exam.
• Previously scheduled assignments that were due on the day of the absence will be due on the day the student returns to school.
• Previously scheduled quizzes/exams will be administered on the day the student returns to school.
• The student is allowed one (1) day for each day of an absence to make up assignments and quizzes/exams scheduled during their absence.
• One (1) day of make-up time is allowed for each day of absence (Example: 2 days absent - 2 days to make up work; 4 days absent - 4 days to make up work, etc.).
Any student absent from class due to extracurricular activities will be responsible for obtaining assignments prior to the absence.
• Students who miss class due to extracurricular activities are required to submit missed assignments and taking any missed quizzes/exams on the first day of his/her return to class.
