In order for you to plan your research units with students, the information below in intended to give you streamlined access to what topics are accessible for student research on the platforms we have at Mason, as well as the developmental levels that the content is available in.
If your team is planning on having your students do research on a particular topic, please reach out to the library team ahead of time so we can work with you on pulling materials that will support your students In their process, especially if it is something you will be doing across the entire grade. With enough advance notice, we can also align our library lessons to support your process.
Questions? Let us know - we're here to help!
If students are going to need to use district databases for research while at home, please be aware of the following:
When users access district research platforms at school, no login information is required as they're on the district network.
When users access many of our district research platforms on a non-district network (i.e., at home), a login/password will be required due to the User Agreements between the district and the companies we've purchased the database from.
A Mason-specific password info page is linked on both the research & the online books pages of the Mason Library website and can be accessed by students using their DISTRICT GOOGLE LOGINS - not their personal google accounts (which will likely be the case if they're using a home computer).
A Google Login Page is linked on both the research & the online books pages of the Mason Library website for students who need a reminder as to what their full Google login is.
If the student is logged Into a personal Google account while at home via the Chrome browser or a default Google account, access to the password info page will be denied. STUDENTS MUST USE THEIR DISTRICT GOOGLE ACCOUNT TO ACCESS THE PASSWORD INFORMATION PAGE WHEN ON A NON-DISTRICT (home) NETWORK.
While teachers cannot post the logIn information for district-provided databases on a public platform (your website), you *can* email the information to parents or post it on a secure platform (Google Classroom, SeeSaw).
