In English Language Arts we will be using a standards-based grading system. Students will be assessed on critical attributes of language arts. Students will have a rubric for each of the individual skills, with a detailed explanation of how to achieve mastery. Students and the teacher will keep track of progress to analyze growth and development as the year unfolds. We grade using a rubric focused on skills. Each skill on an assignment receives a grade from 1-4, with a four equaling a 100%. Many assignments include multiple skills.
Grading is skilled-based. All skills are equally weighted. Skills will vary from grading period to grading period.
4=100%
3.5 = 95%
3 = 90%
2.5 = 80%
2 = 70%
1.5 = 65%
1 = 60%
All students will be offered opportunities to demonstrate mastery of each skill.
Late assignments will be labeled as “M” in the grade book (scores as a zero in grades) until the assignment is completed.
