Ag Mech - this is the 1st of several Ag Mechanics classes offered.
Safety, Oxy Acetylene torch cutting, Arc Welding, electrical, plumbing and more will be covered in this class.

Vandegrift High School Conference: 4th/8th period
The student will learn employ ability skills of a successful employee to meet current industry standards and society.
Understand and consistently demonstrate knowledge of occupational health and safety practices in the industrial working environment. OSHA 10
Identify employer expectations, including appropriate work habits, ethical conduct, legal responsibilities, and good citizenship skills
Select and use the appropriate hand and power tools to perform a given task, maintain tools, and store tools
Demonstrate the use of measuring and marking devices.
The student is expected to identify types of metal as well as cut, file, and drill metal.
Identify and demonstrate the correct procedures for cutting metal using oxy-fuel as well as plasma arc cutting sources.
Understand the various metal joining technology and processes as it relates to agriculture mechanics and the fabrication industry. Including Arc and MIG welding.
Understand concrete construction skills and is expected to estimate for materials, construct forms, finish and cure concrete.
Identify plumbing materials, tools and fixtures, Perform basic plumbing skills using plastics and copper pipe
The student performs basic carpentry skills including drawing, measuring, marking, cutting, building, estimating project cost and finishing.
Perform basic painting and protective coating application processes as well as proper clean up and disposal of materials.
The student identifies and performs electrical wiring skills with fixtures and components to comply with local regulations for residential use.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Clothing Requirements:
Certain clothing/ protective wear is required for this course. Lockers are assigned to you, so you can store the items. All of the items can be found at Walmart, Goodwill, Academy, or your home!
YOU MUST PROVIDE THESE ITEMS:
Full Leather Shoes or Work Boots. NO open toe, tennis shoes, Vans, Converse, or deck shoes (Sperry’s) are to be worn.
Long Sleeve, Thick Cotton Shirts (ex: Wrangler or Dickies Work Shirt)
Denim Jeans – no frayed spots or holes in them
Locking pliers (Vise Grips™ 10R, 10WR or 10CR)
Welding Hood – Strongly recommended.
Provided in class, but a recommended purchase:

Arc Welding Gloves (not TIG gloves)
Daily Classroom Expectations and Guidelines:
Have a positive attitude each day!
Be on time, and ready to work.
No horse playing will be tolerated and is subject to disciplinary action.

Failure to follow Ag Metal Lab dress code will result in a 50 recorded in the grade book for that day. Repeated occurrences will result in discipline referral.
-Participation grades include class and lab activities and are a major part of the course.
-Your grade will be a reflection of the participation you give in class and Ag Mechanics Lab. Repeated choices not to participate will lead to steps of removal from this course.

Continuous Improvement: Opportunities for continuous improvement will be given each grading period on daily grades only- for a maximum grade of 70. If you receive below at 70 on a test grade, you have the opportunity to retest with the highest grade earned is a 70. You must come to the retest opportunity announced or meet with me about an alternate time. If you choose not to retest during the opportunity provided, you will not be able to retest.
